I just want to remind people that if they believe someone is rude, harrasing, abusive or sowing discord here on TheNET, then please send me proof as in:
1. The exact quotes of what they say by copying their correspondence,
2. the the link to where the alleged offense is taking place so I can see what they've written online,
3. or a screenshot of what is said in the chatroom.
I cannot not investigate heresay and it is not good enough to say there are three witnesses that "so and so" is being abusive. Please send me evidence and I will take appropriate action in accordance with our Membership Agreement.
We are all adults here and ambassadors for Jesus Christ. Let's live up to what we have been called.
The church is living in an age that to love a brother by way of correction after all the steps (Matthew 18) have been follow according to scripture is looked at as wrong.
WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE VERSES BELOW:
Job 11:3
Will your idle talk reduce men to silence? Will no one rebuke you when you mock?
Proverbs 9:8
Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you.
Proverbs 15:31
He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise
Proverbs 28:23
He who rebukes a man will in the end gain more favor than he who has a flattering tongue.
Proverbs 29:1 A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
2 Timothy 3:16 (New International Version)
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
Why am I bringing this up, because in the effort to keep the unity in the Spirit in a very large community such as this one we must understand a couple of things:
Despite the believe that we are not called to judge all matters - We are in numerous passages told to examine all things, to examine ourselves and others as well, of course we are not to do that hypocritically but -we are to correct one another as scripture teaches in Matthew 18:15-17. Correction in love calls for judgment of the situation, but we are not to judge for condemnation, but for edification in love.
John 7:24 (New King James Version)
24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
The hypocritical way in which we should not judge is described in Matthew 7 and here:
Romans 2
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things
Romans 14:13 (New King James Version)
13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
1Corinthians 2:15 (New King James Version)
15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one
.So there is a right way to judge and a wrong way:
We must also understand that we are a living organism and we all have been gifted by God to do different functions. Some among us have a great zeal for doctrinal purity and how they go about bringing up disputable matters in doctrine depends on their own maturity level in the Lord. Some who have a passion and gift have not yet learned how to practice it and we must exercise patience with them.
In turn we must also acquire thick skin, the world will hate us and within our body they're will be friction as IRON SHARPENS IRON. Spiritual and emotional Though skin is a must and attainble as we keep the armor on.
There are valuable lessons to be learned here:
1: There are essential doctrines and secondary doctrines. We do not try to hold unity with does that differ in the primary issues, for there can be no real unity build in lies.
Now secondary issues in which we do fiffered in, we do best to keep to ourselves unless we are willing to take heat for our differences in belief.
So Family if you believe differnent in a secondary issue don't bring it up uless you are ready to be challenge in love.
Food for thought:
When iron sharpens iron they together create friction (heat). Through the contact and heat both pieces are sharpened. Whereas, a piece left to itself is simply cold steel and if left alone long enough it will begin to rust.
What we find today is that very few people in community (church) are willing to go through church discipline. It is easier to leave, taking the baggage with them. We also find fewer and fewer pastor's willing to correct and administer appropriate church discipline out of fear. They fear that the church will turn on them or that they may get sued. Standing for righteousness is not always a popular place to be, but a stance that one must make.
As David put it there are primary and secondary issues. Not everything needs to be addressed, nor at the same time can everything be ignored. Discernement must be used. Some things are debatable matters and some are not.
In the two years I have been associated with AAG we have had multiple people come in and challenge the Trinity, the diety of Jesus, baptism, salvation, The blood of Christ, existence of hell, the existence of satan, and various other core doctrines. This site, to my understanding, was started primarily for newer believers. If these things go unchallenged and are not refuted what would those new believer's be being taught.
Lt, I am a new minister and that is exactly why I came here. God called me, I thought this would be a great, safe place to further learn the word, in addition reading scripture and studying by myself and studying with a few other ministries. Are there some people here, albeit well intended that are to judgmental. I feel like I have to filter everything I say lest I be chastised for saying something wrong while I am in my walk that God has sent me on. I truly pray that folks will check their judgment at the door before entering. Is that what we want our children to learn?
There are several factors that have to be taken into account.
1) Not everyone who comes here is a believer. Some have come in the past with the goal of destroying or at least confusing the unity by injecting heresey. These people often will be abusive in their language and attack the individual rather than address the issues. I have been attacked, called all types of names, had people google search me, etc. To the passer by it could be confusing, yet the believer who is refuting the error must do so in love, but with the authority of God's Word and seek to stay on topic.
2) Sometimes Christians make bad decisions. Rather than addressing the topic they get into character assasination and this is wrong. There are times you will address a person directly, but it must be in regards to the topic. We must learn to respond in love using the Word and with a desire for truth to stand, not our own wil or desire. We must learn that it is not about me, but about Jesus and His glory.
3) Not everyone here is at the same level of maturity. You will find that most people have difficulty discussing with another on a topic that offers an alternative view regarding their conviction. The deeper the conviction the stronger the response tends to be.
Discussion is good. Debate is good as long as individuals will stay on topic and respect the other person. Some things we can agree to disgree on. There are other doctrines that we cannot agree to disagree on (I.e. Is Jesus the Son of God, the Living God).
At times discussions have gone bad here on AAG and in those instances Greg and others who have been authorized can step in and shut it down. Discretion must be used regarding this intervention as this is an open community where ideas and discussion are encouraged.
The key is to stay on topic and stay away from character assasination.
I will add one more thought. A while back a brother and I were discussing a topic and were going back and forth for a long time discussing and pointing out our positions. Someone came in thinking we were at odds with each other and fighting. We both responded that we were good with each other and simply seeking to refine our understanding on this topic. It was a lively debate, but no character assasination or anger. Thus, what may look like an argument actually may not be at all. Often we need to ask questions for clarity.
Not trying to pick a fight (hahahahaha) when we are talking about not fighting, but just wondering if i follow your thought correctly.
You said: "I truly pray that folks will check their judgment at the door before entering."
What do you mean by that sis?
Acts 17:11 (New International Version)
11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
In order to examine we judge the situation, so how do you mean your statement, because i do want to teach my children, if i ever have any, to be able to :
John 7:24 (New King James Version)
24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
for:
1Corinthians 2:15 (New King James Version)
15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one
Thank you for sharing your thought with me Chip, I appreciate it a lot. Let's keep on united in this site for His glory and to strengthening each other as the one body of the Christ. Praise the Lord. Haleluja!!! God unites us all and bless us all and keep us all. Christy Gabriel
