Atheists in Foxholes Want Chaplains, Too

Secularists are pushing the military to provide non-religious ministers.

I thought that Chaplains in the Military were already multi-religious..  They need to accept all beliefs.

The reason I think this is because my oldest son is very interested in the Military, and he has been researching different jobs in the military, and Chaplain was one that interested him until he found out that the Chaplain has to accept and teach/speak to all different 'spiritual' beliefs.  In their eyes there isn't 'one' that is right...but all are equally accepted.

I'm not sure when it came into effect, but I believe it is not new--- or maybe it is for Canada since we are Canadian.

Considering how the world is going it shouldn't be a surprise to us.  As Christians we stand strong in the truth knowing there is One True God.

Blessings, Carla

Atheists have every reason to fear... which is why they feel as though they need some sort of consolation when faced with darkness and death.  In every day life it may be 'easy' for them to ignore God's voice and His gentle drawing to Himself by the Holy Spirit.. on the fields of battle they may be more sensitive to be open to Him.

I would politely ask you not to distance yourself or make fun of atheists, as I used to be one. I do not defend atheism itself, just the people. Just remember that if it was not for god's grace we would be in the same predicament...

I say this for everyone's benefit.

I would be interested to hear your story, Lucas.

Got my story/testimony in my profile, if you want to read it :)

I do find it bizarre, now that I actually read the article, that they are advocating non-religious ministers (which seems contradictory) when they could just make therapists confidential...

Carla , I believe in the one true God and his son Jesus. But if your son is feeling a leading in that area , perhaps God is leading him to it. We need true light in the world and if God called him to it, he will give him the wisdom. to handle himself wisley and perhaps be of great help to a lot of hurting people. After all, God is all about love and that's the whole reason for ministry anyway . If he chooses to go that way , I know our Lord would not let him fail. May God's leading and blessing go with him whatever he decides to do. God bless !

If God is leading him into it, than of coarse I would support him.  However, he's only 14, and we cannot know for sure at this young age.  For now he's just trying to figure things out, and 'thinking out loud' in regards to his many options.  He understands that he must first finish school (including a post secondary education) before he can make any decisions.  Thank you for the blessing of God's leading and blessing over his life whatever he decides to do.  Blessings, Carla

mm I would lean the other stuff get in and tell em the truth !

I am a little confused about this issue.  What exactly is a 'non-religious minister'?

If they are talking about psychiatrists , they already have and are available to anyone who wants to consult them.

One other option , I guess , would be fortune tellers or horoscope consulters or sooth-sayers.

If it is simply 'motivational speakers' they have DI's for that (just kidding).

A 'multi-religious' chaplain would be both an enigma and a (in my opinion only) useless or even counterproductive person.

I guess I'll leave this to greater minds than my own.  God bless

Hi Chip, God bless!

I'm kind of puzzling over what type of counseling secularists could give too.

I've been thinking about the battlefield thing. As Christians, we put ourselves on the line everyday. Ephesians 6 is very powerful. There's lots of spiritual warfare going on.

Love,

Mary
