All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

As the Bible says, the tongue is but a little thing but it can cause destructive results... And I believe this refers to the sin of Gossiping, Murmuring, Complaining, Backbiting, Negative Confessions, cursing languages and more.
My question is HOW DO I CHANGE FROM SUCH ACTIVITIES? I feel guilty everytime I commit the same sin of complaining, gossiping but everytime I pray, I ask God to forgive me AND also to change me. How is it that I find it hard to change from these activities? DO I need more than just prayer? Deliverance maybe?

God Bless You all your time in sharing what God has laid in your hearts on this issue.

I do little gossiping because I have been the topic of it and know how it feels...so when I hear it, I automatically say "I don't believe that for one minute". However, gossip isn't the only thing that does harm to others. For me it is anger. When a person is angry, they say things that ought not be said. I am afraid that I am guilty of that. I am trying to get better but it isn't easy.  I have a situation happening currently that makes me very angry. I do my best not to voice it to others but I do voice it to myself. I realized the other day that wasn't good either, so am working at dispelling it altogether. Overcoming sins of the tongue isn't easy. Much perseverance is required.

blessings,

Rita

Hi Sheena,

Gossiping is very destructive. People throughout history have been murdered or put to death over rumors.

Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.

All evil comes forth from the heart and proceeds out of the mouth. " ...For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Mat 12:34). "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies" (Mat 15:18-19). The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer 17:9). "

Many Blessings.

Thanks Rita, Chris & John for your responses. Indeed it is a challenge for me when it comes to controlling the tongue. My prayer for each of us is that whatever situation we are struggling with, God will give us wisdom in dealing with it.
May God Bless You all richly
