From My Perspective - - -
TULIPOMANIA = “A violent passion for the acquisition or cultivation of tulips” -- In Holland, in the first half of the 17th century, the cultivation of tulips became a mania. It began about the year 1634, and, like a violent epidemic, seized upon all classes of the community, leading to disasters and misery such as the records of commerce or of bankruptcies can scarcely parallel. In 1636, tulip marts had been established in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Haarlem,… Continue

This is going to be a really tough semester. I'm trying to find a job, but I can't. My grandpa is probably going to be put into a nursing home soon. It's hard to watch others suffer and so many have been hit hard by the economy. Still, I am trying to see God in all this and trust his plan.
Superchick Crawl (Carry Me Through) Lyrics:
How long will this take?
How much can I go through?
My heart, my soul aches
I don't know what to do
I bend, but don't…

Just a little interlude...
I promise I will get back to the discussion about teachers ... as James says that not many of us should be teachers. So the question is who does qualify and what is the criteria for a teacher in the church? But hey, I haven't had time to get my thoughts on paper yet.
So for now, sit back and enjoy this old story!! Ya gotta love it! I used to read it to the kids, but only remembered the bit about the sky falling. I think there's some lessons in… Continue

January 19 - From Messes to Miracles
Body: "A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
"
(Proverbs 18:7)
We have what we say. As believers, we know that's a vital biblical truth. We can see it in Mark 11:23, Matthew 21:21, James 3:2, and many other verses. Yet we often let it slip.
We allow ourselves to begin talking like the world instead of talking the Word. And eventually we get what we've been asking for--a big…

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?''
The mother replied, "Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life."
The child thought about this for a moment then said, "So why is the groom wearing black?"

Yes, I believe Barack Obama's historical election to the US Presidency and his celebrated inauguration on January 20, 2008 as an African American indicates clearly that the Lord rules in the kingdoms of men. In a country where discrimination against African Americans was formally insitutionalized in the society as recently as just about four decades ago and which has a congress of only one African American senator among a hundred senators, it is an acclaimed astonishment that Barack Obama, an…

Jan 19 - Our Only Hope is Jesus
Body: "Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
"
(Acts 2:26-27)
Twenty-one years ago, God said something to me that will mark my ministry forever. The only hope that any man has anywhere in the world is faith in Jesus Christ.
In light of what's happening…

*Just One More Time* by Jesse James
Luke 5:4-6 (New International Version)
4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down[a] the nets for a catch." 5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets." 6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and…

My husband and I have been married for only 2 years and I feel his distance. We (I'm 51 and he's 47) started over late in life I know, but we are still newlyweds and there is no romance or intimacy of any kind. I'm afraid of the gut feelings I have with only past experience to go by and I have no idea on how to be married. I was divorced for 20 years prior to marrying again. I love my husband with all my heart, but I don't feel any closeness from him.

Out with the Old, In with the New
Brent Barnett
Luke 5:36-39 says, "And He was also telling them a parable: 'No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled out, and the skins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one, after…

Continuing on from the last blog, and looking at James 3:1, where it says: "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment."
What does James mean about that stricker judgment? And why is it more severe for teachers? Could seem a bit unfair!?
Anyhow, I've been doing a bit of study, but I'm not finished yet. But here are the bare bones of what I've found. I thought you might like to look at it for your study. So, here it…

The Feature Headline in the Drudge Report for Monday, January 19th is: “Anything Possible”! In a Pre-Inaugural speech, The MY-WAY Report states: “Two days from the White House, President-elect Barack Obama joined a vast throng Sunday at a joyous pre-inauguration celebration staged among marble monuments to past heroes. Anything is possible in America, declared the man who will confront economic crisis and two wars when he takes office. Despite the… Continue

January 18 - Get Yourself Together
Body: "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"
(Amos 3:3)
When it comes to faith, a lot of believers feel like they have one foot nailed to the ground. No matter how hard they try, they just can't seem to make any progress.
If you'll watch them, you can see why. They literally haven't "gotten themselves together." One minute they'll be telling you, "Oh yes, amen, I believe the Word," and the next minute they'll be…

A friend and I have been doing a study on James via email. It's been quite an adventure!! I must share some insights from chapters 1 and 2 sometime. Things like counting it all joy when trouble comes... and not being double-minded ... and faith without works is dead... etc.
Anyhow, that will have to wait, because now we're up to another sticky topic in chapter 3. The first verse certainly made me take a step back. Here's James 3, verses 1…
