I'm here to...
connect with other missionaries passionate about Jesus
Interests:
hobbies? I am an artist - I use just about any medium. I also enjoy reading. But I work 70 hours a week so I don't get to do much of that. I also like to get online.
I do colored pencil drawings as an expression of worship during our services, and have recently begun bringing that with me to Peru. Below you'll see some of my personal favorites. I sell them to support missions - either the ones my church supports or my personal ones to Peru.
I'm passionate about...
JESUS! And wherever the Lord sends me - whether I serve at school,in the homes of the infirm, or as a missionary in Peru (my home away from home!) I want to be a vessel of His love.
My story with God
Many seeds were planted prior to my salvation, but on March 13, 1971 the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sin and separation from the living God, and I wanted to be reconciled through Christ. I have been falling deeply in love with Him ever since.
Other stuff about me:
I'm preparing for my 7th mission trip to Peru - my ministry is visitation in the House of God, and speaking His message of love, hope, and encouragement, to build up the Body of Christ.Father is always extending my borders! I am always ready to talk about the Lord, what He has done in me, through me, for me...I guess I'm just a "Jesus Freak!"
While I believe we are all missionaries wherever we go, my PREFERRED mission field is Peru. After the drawings you'll see some of my favorite pix from trips in 06 and 07.

I have a plethora of spiritual sons and daughters in Peru. Jose Choquehuanca was my first. The first time I went to Peru, I stayed at the mssion where my former church's missionary had been, and was giving the missionary pastor's wife a break from the Sunday afternoon English classes she taught. Jose was one of the students. After I returned to the states, he wrote to me, and told me how his mother had passed away when he was 5, and he was brought up under witchcraft, and it took some time after his salvation before he was able to walk in freedom. But anyway, learning of his motherlessness, I invited him to consider me his mom, and he has been a devoted son since. When I went for my second visit in 03 , pastor Hugo often assigned him to escort me when Hugo had to do other things - an assignnment which Jose was more than happy to do. It was so ironic that when I returned home, smelling kind of ripe from the trip, my natural born son covered his nose and declined a hug until after I had showered!
Foreman Varela, himself a missionary through Youth With A Mission , and a youth leader in his church in Iquitos, Peru, is my #1 spiritual son. He is the eldest, and also we joke that he is the most expensive, because I have invested in his work. I have also paid for his passage (and visa interviews) to come to the states, 3 times. He stays with me when he is here - and so we have grown much closer. When I am in his city I stay at his house. His mother Marleni is actually the first native who wrote a reply to my letters to the church there, and it is through my friendship with her that I took him into my heart.
Abel Amane is another very dear and special son. Like Jose, his mother passed away when he was just a wee child. I met him breifly in 04, and we got to know each other better when we connected online on the messenger, and built our relationship up. So when I returned in 06, he was waiting for me at the airport - at 4:30 in the morning!-and as I ministered to him as a mom, he began to blossom more in the Lord. When I returned for 2 weeks in Feb last year, I stayed at his house during the week I was in Lima; and last summer i had him accompany me during the 4 weeks I was in Iquitos and the "selva" (rainforest), and together we stayed at Foreman's house (Foreman is a big joker. He told Abel, "the tradition is, if it's your first time visiting, you fast for the first 3 days")When in Lima, I stayed with him. He will accompany me during the entire 2 months I am there this summer.

    Hello Shelly!!,and welcome!
How are you? It sure is a blessing to have you here.

This is Paige, another moderator here on TheNet, and Im very blessed to have you join our community of believers, as we grow in the love and wisdom of our Lord . Its soo neat to meet new friends here from all around the world . You will find TheNet a safe place to get to know other believers and share your love and life in Christ.

I really like it here because its a great online source of Christian information, and fellowship. When I find it hard to get out of the house or hard to get to church, I get online and get "filled" with His word and all the other believers and thier prayers. Its soo good to know that when Im hurting there are others that are too and in need of the same love and support I do from the Lord. Praise God for His work on the Cross!!! We are all one body now and can work together to heal
    and help other members.

Also, Id like to invite you to come over and visit us in the Womens Group where women from all ages and all walks of life come to encourage and be encouraged to help, and be helped, to share thier wisdom with other women , and get prayer that we all need as women to continue in our faith and the path God has set before us all.

I hope to "see" you often and I would love to get to know you more as we walk this faith.
Im your friend, and if I can help or answer any questions for you, Im here.

COOL!!! I have a artist friend!! Praise God! I am pleased to see another artist glorify Christ with the gift that was given you. Isnt it cool what God gives each and every one of us to serve Him and others??? Im soo happy to have met you and what you do. Did you see some of my work? I actually have done alot more work than that, but I dont have all my work put to CD yet. I have probably painted murals and drawings in about 4 churches, and IM on my 5th one. and I have drawn over 250 pieces of art since I came to Christ a few years ago. Hello Shelley,

Yes, my Paganism past is not something that I'm proud of, but if God uses me to help others, that is what I plan on doing. I just started a group "Pagan/Wiccan's Transformed by Christ", so if you know anyone, please send them to that group. But most of all please pray, for those who are still Pagan but looking at Christianity and that this group, will help many come to a better understanding of God's love. I look forward to getting to know you better!

Yes I really enjoy being a stay at home mother. To be able to see how they are learning and growing. They are only three and two, but we have fun learning and growing, not only education but the love of God. I love that you go out on missions, it is something that I want to eventually do, to be able to go out into the world and share the love of God. Right now my mission field is here in Utah. You'll have to keep me informed on your missions!

Hey Shelley...So glad you connected with me. I absolutely love your pictures. I can see by your smile that you love what you do...and they love you too. It's a wonderful ministry. Your pictures brought many memories to my mind, of our times in Peru. We go to Pacasmayo, and work with an American missionary Avis Goodhart, who started an orphanage there, and last year added a bilingual school.

Let me know how things are going there. Do you have a bunch of people you connect with via e-mail? When we are travelling we use e-mail address; giesentravellers@yahoo.com.

We plan on going for six months, maybe in November. Hope to keep in touch with you. May God fill you to overflowing so that HIS love can touch all those precious ones that you come in contact with, wherever you are.

    Blessings & Hugs,
    MaryAnn

    Hi Shel,

Great hearing from you. Do you travel to Peru by yourself? I'll bet you are getting excited to see old friends. You have so much to give, and I can see that you are a real blessing. Enjoyed your short video clip with that great big cake.

Yes it would be fun indeed to get together sometime, if it can work out. My husband and I plan on going for perhaps 6 months from November 2008 to April 2009.

Enjoy all that God has for you there and here.

    Love and Hugs,
    MaryAnn

Hi Shel, Thanks for the note. Have you spoken spanish for a long time, or did you learn it to go and minister?

I have been trying to learn the spanish language for the past few years. I attended language school in Chile for one month, and studied, on my own the rest of the time, travelling through Mexico mostly, before I knew Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I also have some tapes and spanish workbooks. I guess I have to be more persistent and consistent with the time I spend learning.

I have several books in spanish, and a spanish/english bible that helps. Also there is a relative of a friend, Mexican born, living in Ontario, that has agreed to talk on the phone with me in spanish, but we always seem to revert back to english. Her name is Gabby, and she has suggested I come up with a topic that we can discuss in spanish, which I think is a great idea, but I seem to get stuck at this point...I am not quite sure why I get so stuck in coming up with a topic to discuss in spanish. Maybe it's a mental block.

    Any suggestions?

    Love and Hugs,
    MaryAnn

    WOW Shelley...you are amazing!

Thanks for your in-depth wonderful note on how you learned Spanish. I am impressed, challenged, and encouraged to become disciplined myself. You are not the first person that has told me to listen to spanish music and messages. I like your style. (all of the tips you gave me.)

Now I am inspired to learn this language. There is a team of 20 youth and others, from our church going down to the orphanage where we will be based, in March, 2009.

My new goal is to be one of the translators for them in the spring of 2009. So thanks Shelley. Again, I say, you are amazing, and I appreciate you taking your precious time to tell me this. I hope our paths cross one day, and we will be able to converse in Spanish.

    In HIS Amazing Love.
    Your Sister, MaryAnn

Hey Shel, Here's a quick question for you!

Are you familiar with The Alpha Marriage Course? If so, do you know if they have it in Spanish, and/or if it is being given in any of the churches in Peru?

If you don't know...don't sweat it, I can check it out. Thanks!

    Hugs,
    MaryAnn

    Dear Sister Shelley
Yesterday I saw so many supports from my saint-friends in AAG. I cried and gave my thankgiving to my Lord that He gives you all to me in my life, to strengthen and support me always when I am in my downfalls. I had read and reread again your comments and I meditated on them – That helped me a lot… until I could feel the presence of my Lord came to me and I knew He came because of your prayers, not of my tears… God has heard Your prayers... and He came immediately to rescue me and... suddenly my very very very best friend told me about the wrong accusation and asked for my forgiveness. But for me there was nothing to forgive for it was the devil’s work. I knew it right away that everything is clear now because my Lord accepted your sacrificed-prayers for me…
Here I would like to thank you all for your prayers-support for me… for yesterday I just felt very hurtfull so I just wrote that to you all without checking my English grammar, as I used to… but just rushing to my Lord and to you all, for I became ‘a baby Christian yesterday’ when the devil attacked me tooo hard. I believe that all my friends here, ones who wrote comments for me or ones who just prayed without giving comments, had prayed for me yesterday, and that you are all really saints sent by my Father God in heaven to assist and threngthen me when I am in my downfalls…
I personally give my utmost thanks to Bob B, Brateng, Jack, LT, Nienie, Prophetess Rowena Welch, Shelley, Betty, Lorna Namara, Mary Ann (thank you for the prayers… I’ll keep it with me to defeat the devil), K~, Jamie and others. I just realize that I am loved and supported on this net. I thank my Lord for guiding me to this net… And I pray that my Lord bless you all abundantly, and save your downfalls with His overflowing care and love. All the words in this world can not support my thanksgiving to my Lord and to you all. Me and my very very very best friend is now in the best relationship because of you all. I THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH… FOR MAKING ME SMILE AND FEEL ALIVE AGAIN… You will always be in my daily thoughts and prayers… GOD BLESS YOU ALL ABUNDANTLY AND CONTINUOUSLY…

With love in Christ: your happy sister – Christy Gabriel B

    I asked God…

I asked God to take away my pain
    God said, No
-it is not for me to take away,
But for you to give up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole
    God said, No
-Her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience
    God said, No
-patience is a by-product of tribulations,
It isn’t granted, it is earned.
I asked God to give me happiness
    God said, No
-I give you blessings, happiness is up to you.
I asked God to make my spirit grow
    God said, No
-you must grow on your own
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life
    God said, No
-I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things
I asked God to helped me LOVE others,
as much as He loves me
    God said…..
Ahhh, finally you have the idea.

    God loves You!

Please do keep on praying for the request of mine down below, and I know I can count on you to do it:

Please "WIN the 10/40 WINDOWS" for JESUS CHRIST.
The 10/40 Windows (located between 10 - 40 degrees North of Equator - between West Africa to East Asia) need Missionaries, have no church at all, and there live about 40 percent of the world population. INDONESIA, my country is in the 10-40 windows though we have churches. Let's get on our knees, praying hand in hand with me for their revival. I look forward to the day when the Lord who I kneel to worship will be recognized by all the living and the dead as the One True Lord.
    Thank you so very much
