Oh, and during this prayer, I was trying to quiet my mind and I had this stupid Christina Aguilera song in my head that I could not get out...So, when I was sitting there in silence concentrating on feeling some out of this world sensation, Christina was singing. Despite that song blaring in my head, I still heard that thought...

Here's a Story of Don Piper's experience:
Let me tell you about a most wonderful experience I had early Monday morning, March 19, 2007, a little after six o’clock. God actually spoke to me. There is no doubt that it was God. I heard the words in my head just as clearly as when a memory of a conversation passes across your consciousness. The words were in English, but they had about them an absolutely self-authenticating ring of truth. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God still speaks today.
I couldn’t sleep for some reason. I was at Shalom House in northern Minnesota on a staff couples’ retreat. It was about five thirty in the morning. I lay there wondering if I should get up or wait till I got sleepy again. In his mercy, God moved me out of bed. It was mostly dark, but I managed to find my clothing, got dressed, grabbed my briefcase, and slipped out of the room without waking up Noël. In the main room below, it was totally quiet. No one else seemed to be up. So I sat down on a couch in the corner to pray.
As I prayed and mused, suddenly it happened. God said, “Come and see what I have done.” There was not the slightest doubt in my mind that these were the very words of God. In this very moment. At this very place in the twenty-first century, 2007, God was speaking to me with absolute authority and self-evidencing reality. I paused to let this sink in. There was a sweetness about it. Time seemed to matter little. God was near. He had me in his sights. He had something to say to me. When God draws near, hurry ceases. Time slows down.
I wondered what he meant by “come and see.” Would he take me somewhere, like he did Paul into heaven to see what can’t be spoken? Did “see” mean that I would have a vision of some great deed of God that no one has seen? I am not sure how much time elapsed between God’s initial word, “Come and see what I have done,” and his next words. It doesn’t matter. I was being enveloped in the love of his personal communication. The God of the universe was speaking to me.
Then he said, as clearly as any words have ever come into my mind, “I am awesome in my deeds toward the children of man.” My heart leaped up, “Yes, Lord! You are awesome in your deeds. Yes, to all men whether they see it or not. Yes! Now what will you show me?”

I know many people believe that God stopped speaking to people after the 1 century but I don't. I believe the same faith that was delivered to the apostles has been given to us if we would desire it.
Heb. 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
In 1994 I was going through spiritual oppression. I could not sleep and my mind was, lets just say troubled. I actually thought the mediations that troubled me were from myself but I did not know if Satan was involved or not. After a long period of no sleep I set to prayer, again, not expecting deliverance just wanting that relationship with Christ when my thoughts returned. I said to Satan, "Do you mind I am praying here." Then a small voice spoke to my spirit. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. I thought OK well that was weird. But what came into the room next was NOT of GOD. I felt it looking at me and left the room. I SLEPT WOUNDERFULLY that night and to this day have never had that kind of trouble in my walk with Christ.
The voice in my case was not audible but God revealed His will to my spirit. I know that seems weird but that was my experience. I do not doubt that God spoke to you.
I hesitate to share this experience because I know that many people with think I am craze or something. I am sure that people might believe you are nuts to but hold to your spiritual victoried because they will give you strength. I am not trying to silence debate on our topic just want to encourge you.

WE CAN HEAR HIS VOICE TODAY

Millions have been converted because one man waited to hear His voice. Saul
"fell to the earth, and heard a voice" (Acts 9:4). And when he became Paul, he
kept on hearing that voice. The Lord spoke man-to-man with him.
Peter allowed the Savior's voice to come to him. "Peter went up upon the
housetop to pray . . . And there came a voice to him (Acts 10:9 and 13).
The door into the kingdom was opened because a man obeyed a voice. We are
living in the same New Testament times as Paul and Peter. We, too, must allow
His voice to come to us. What God could do with Christians who learn to hear
from heaven!
Instead of waiting for His voice to come to us, we run to counselors and
Christian psychologists. We run to one session or another, reading books,
listening to tapes, longing to hear from God. We want a clear word of direction
for our lives and look to pastors to tell us what is right and wrong.
We want a leader to follow, a diagram for the future. But few know how to go to
the Lord and hear His voice. There are many who know how to get God's attention,
to really touch God, but they know nothing about God reaching them.
"He that hath ears to hear, let them hear" (Matthew 11:15).
God wants to shake the earth once more. "See that ye refuse not him that
speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much
more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once
more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven" (Hebrews 12:25-26).
To the last church, the Laodicean church, the Lord cries, "Behold, I stand at
the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come
in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).

When I meet The Lord, I heard Him right away. Please do not think this is pride, I just have always heard Him. For a long time I thought everybody did. When I discovered this, I also found out some were offended by what I shared in hearing The Spirit without hesitation. See from the start I just never felt any other way. So I never had to get past things so do. And, we all have different things that make us up.
Kayla when I read this sentence, " And there was a "sad" tone to it like this (person/God/my imagination whatever it was) felt hurt or sad that I felt so alone or oblivious." I felt compassion for you. What we all must know is God knows our hearts. Some have told me He does not speak to everyone, I do not share that belief. Nor, do I condemn anyone who thinks that way. For me I believe we just need to yield and have the desire. For some when they start off they begin with Praise and Worship, then with Faith, always with Faith they quiet their spirits and listen. Or, in Prayer as you have shared. Others feel God only speaks through His Word. Now for me know The Word is important, because God will not speak to you things that would be contrary to His Word. Still, when I read His Word I then ask, "What does this mean or that mean, will You show me a deeper or simpler Understanding of what Your Word is meaning here." I have been speaking to The Lord, The Spirit, or God for 37 yrs. now. I have has times that I was mad at God, I actually threw a rock up into the sky in the attempt of hitting Him {foolish yes, I was much younger than} the reason I share this is, the rock can down and did not hit me, and The Spirit asked me, "Can we continue now?" He was not angry with me or hurt. I was just acting like a child, and He knew my heart.
My Sister from what you have shared, I do not gather or feel you have any contempt towards God. This part tells me much, "felt so alone or oblivious." It tells me your spirit had been leading you to this point. Your spirit Not flesh knew that you could and can talk to God. Why, else are we made this way? Yes, we have a body, a mind, and a spirit. And, in our case Born Again spirit. 10For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:10-13 So Kayla let yourself be free in Him. Know The Word, do not be lead astray. Put your Hope, Faith, Love, and Trust, in Him for He will protect you. If you have questions about things you have heard, you will get a "check" in your spirit, go to someone you trust and shares your beliefs, and is more mature in The Lord, if you have those questions. I just encourage you to be Joyful that we have a Father, Jesus, and Spirit that can and will speak to us.
