All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

So, my pastor asks me today why I haven't been baptized and I told him that I'm still searching God and still navigating my way through Christianity. For those who know me through the few years I have posted on this site, I have a LOT of  questions and I'm somewhat skeptical, which I don't  find anything wrong with.

I was saved when I was younger, but it didn't mean anything because I was a kid and I didn't know what the heck anything  meant. As an  adult, I have asked God to save me and I repented. One of the struggles I have is not "feeling" anything. I wanted to feel God so I asked him to save me (just in case it didn't count when I was younger).

So, I told my pastor that I haven't been baptized because I want to feel more certain or it's  not going to mean anything. You want to love someone before you  stand at the alter and marry them, right? So then,  he proceeds to ask me, "how long have you been involved in witchcraft?" Really??? Then he says that most satanists and wiccans will deny it when asked. Um, yeah, because I'm not a wiccan or  satanist.  What. the. heck?!?

THIS is what turns me away from God. People who turn  everything into a religious issue and say  insane stuff  like that. He wants to talk to me after church on Sunday. I'm dreading this. Why can't I question something? Why am I a satanist  because I don't feel God?

LOLOL LT. I just noticed the FB post. That will really draw them in huh?

This behaviour is very inappropriate and unacceptable.  A Pastor has a very high calling as many things, one of which is a role model for his congregation.  This comment sounds like a gossip starter.  I'm surprised and disappointed to hear that he did this.

Yet, another deeply disturbing revelation, setting off another loud alarm, as this story continues to unfold.

I do not visit any psychics either or dabble in that. Because I have researched it and I know the seriousness of it, I'm half afraid. Someone once said, "if you think you have demons now, just wait. "
And I don't conjure up any spirits or any of that nonsense. It just fascinates me.

Would you be open to sharing this fascination with your Pastor?

In lieu of their conversation as posted above I am not sure I would encourage that. He makes a great leap from her not being ready to get baptized because she is still searching to him assuming she is involved with witchcraft (he does not ask her, he tells her she is involved by asking how long). Keep in mind that she is in church, searching and asking questions. Would a Satanist/witch really be doing that? Not impossible, but why would she be looking for help here if that were the case? After making such a proclamation he then divides his focus between opening doors to demons, Satanist and witchcraft. A further investigation may be in order, but not sure he is unbiased enough to discern here. If he is one that sees a demon behind every rock he can do more harm than good. Then again, he may be a good pastor ... I don't know him, but I do see some red flags that concern me.

Kayla, does the church have a website and if so could you send it to me via AAG email?

I would  be, but I'm not involved in anything...So,  I kind of find it irrelevant.  He was assuming I'm into witchcraft because I told  him that I don't feel God.

This is great time to interject something. I am not saying this applies to this pastor, again I do not know him. Have any of you been around a group that sees demons as the cause of every bad situation in our lives. There are whole ministries out there that focus so heavily on the demonic, believing that there is a demon behind every rock, and seek to exorcise them out of people per every occurance. I will not go into some of the horror stories related to some of these ministries, but will simply say that they are dangerous. Again, to be clear, I am not saying this of this church or pastor, but his leap from "not ready" to witchcraft and demons is very concerning.

I wonder how Kayla might ask a question of the Pastor to further understand  his stance on this.

Perhaps something like: "Do you believe that demons are responsible for all of our choices, or what you referred to as 'demon's blocking' my acceptance of Christ?"  There is likely a better way to word this to draw him out and understand his stance....  Thoughts???

I would ask him straightforward ... "On what did you base your opinion of me when you stated I am a witch when you asked me how long I have been involved in witchcraft? Because that was not a question, but a statement that was followed by a question." Secondly, depending on the answer to the first, "Why do you think my searching to be sure about my faith before being baptized is a sign of demons blocking my acceptance of Christ? Is that your view on all who want to be sure about their salvation before being baptized?"

I would be very cautious before I let him in my head.

Yes.. very good.

How does this sound to you Kayla?
