preparations for an eventual economic collapse

i encourage all to start a food and water supply besides their normal food shopping. food shortages may be ahead, but i think that it will become so high in price, even a loaf of bread. also, stock up on some other items like medical kits, emergency candles, etc. so when the dollar collapses totally, what are we going to buy food with? its good to have xtra. God wants His people prepared and ready for the trying times ahead. you dont want to be one of those out in the store fighting off other people for water and food supplies at the last minute. also, you may want to get even xtra for family and friends that wont prepare for themselves. dollar stores have some good bargains. what do you think about this?

check out the senate bill 510, where it wants to control backyard gardeners or stating you cannot save seeds!!!

  Oh, I will have to point this blog out to Rick when he gets back from the store, he will be interested in this discusssion; working through his file cabinets, I saw he has like 6 inches of files named "Survival: Bronze age technology", it covers everything from making linen, leather curing, smelting metals like pewter, bronze, pig iron, basic husbandry, refining salt, making lumber with hand tools; all sorts of low technology, pre-industrial, non-electric, non petroleum stuff.  And he has this neat volumb of books called "Foxfire" that is a collection of both folklore and techiniques collected from people of the Appalacian mountains that still use many of the old colonial days way of doing things.  I know he has permission of our Amish neighbor friends this year to help and study how they do their farm with horse power only; oh, I wish I could too, since they are part of my heritage being German, but the role of women in their society is restricted to more domestic duties; and well, living unmarried with Rick, makes them uncomfortable, although they are polite about it.  Oh, I got to babbling..I'll tell Rick about this blog, it sounds cool and something he will want to follow.  (Anna)

  Anna, is correct; whether it will be economic, political or environmental, a combination of these; and whether it is caused by man's ignorance or greed or a part of the End of Days prophecy; humanity is walking on the edge of a knife.  Modern civilization and its technology, is very fragile; if it collapses the loss of life will be appalling and make the years of the Black Death look like a minor event instead of the world altering event that it was.

  Ugh, this is Anna's and my anniversary of 1 month having met and we have a very special dinner to fix and day and night to enjoy (it started with a nice worship service at a local Southern Baptist Church, I am really getting to enjoy Anna wearing clothes other than black or leather, lol); I really don't want to spoil the mood by getting into this particular view of the future today.

this is exactly the reason i hesitated before i posted this discussion is every one would jump out saying that its fear or its worrysome to be prepared. well, when it does happen that at least i have provided for my family and others in need. joseph didnt do it out of fear, neither do i. i see the signs of the times

 janet, thanks for the support on this issue. not only should we seek scripture but also be aware of what is going on in the world, how else will we know the times and His coming. we cannot live in our own little house on the praire, not looking beyond our own backyards. that makes us comfortable in our own little world. which i think some here are living. nonetheless, i pray that God will reveal it to anyone one here, but He will give it only if you seek His wisdom and knowledge.  if everything goes all well with the food storage, someone else will benefit, even if the rapture has occurred. there will always be those left behind, even our own family or even strangers, someone will benefit.  shalom

no, eveyone has their own opinion amanda. no need to apoligize,  i just dont believe God is about to write a new bible so therefore i dont think He will turn stones into manna. not that He couldnt. but scripture is already established, so, really just preparing for anything. im not mad at you amanda, so please stop apoligizing. its all good. if i reach just a few. im happy with that. i trust the Lord so much and im so thankful for all His provisions. i wasnt trying to belittle your remark, was  just thinking God doesnt really through out those kind of miracles these days, thats all. but also i didnt bring this up to be scrutinized either, just wanted to let others know its a good idea to be ready

Preparation is common sense. Just the natural disasters that we have seen in the last 5 years should give everyone pause and discernment to prepare for disruptions. I can tell you that after 3 days without clean water and food, you would be in a panic if you don't have something set aside.

scribe,after 3 days people start to meltdown. just take the catrina hurricane. people went crazy in the food markets to get evey last bit of bottled water or any other supplies. and your right thats just natural disasters. an economic collapse would inidicte choas.  shalom

We should be prepare and do check the expiration dates as Carla has reminded us.

Margaret great topic - we must be wise and plan how to be a blessing to our neighbors and our families. God is all for that.

 

Amanda- great example beloved and reminder that God will take care of his own.

 

The main thing is not to fall into tabloid theology, fears and insecurities for our God is in Control of EVERYTHING and who is like our Lord or more powerful. No one - Hallelujah!!!

David, I agree with you about avoiding tabloid theology (great term, btw). 

 

However, the Bible does teach preparedness and it's really something that we have lost the concept of in modern America. We are dependent on a system that is very reliable in good times, but which could break down in any kind of real war or disaster. Our grandparents understood this and had pantries stocked with canned (Jarred) foods and dried goods like rice and beans for emergencies. 

 

In my case, I did prepare for the Y2K scenario, somewhat. We had shelves full of canned goods, rice, beans and supplies. I was REALLY glad that we did, because on 9-11-2001 I lost my job and was out of work for a very long time. We survived on the stuff that I had stored for Y2K. 

 

Preparation is not fear and Jesus was not suggesting that we not prepare for the future with his parable of the man with the enlarged barns. What he was saying is that we must be more careful to prepare for Eternity than we are to prepare for this life.
