All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Many believe that once you are saved you are always saved and that you cannot lose your salvation or be rejected by God.

What is the scriptural basis for “Once saved always saved”? Does not the responsibility lie with the believer how he/she conduct themselves after initially being saved?

I see many scriptures that say/imply other than once saved always saved:

Old Testament:

Num 14:11  Then the LORD said to Moses: "How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?

Num 14:12  I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them..."

1Sa 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king."

1Sa 28:6  And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets.

1Sa 28:7  Then Saul said to his servants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her…"

Pro 2:13  …From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness

New Testament:

Joh 17:12  …Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition

Act 8:9  But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery…

Act 8:13  …Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done…

Act 8:20  …But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!

Act 8:21  You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.

Act 8:22  Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

Act 8:23  For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity."

1Pe 4:17  For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

1Pe 4:18  Now "IF THE RIGHTEOUS ONE IS SCARCELY SAVED, WHERE WILL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?"

Jas 5:19  Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

Jas 5:20  let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

2Ti 2:17  …Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort,

2Ti 2:18  who have strayed concerning the truth

2Ti 2:24  …And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,

2Ti 2:25  in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

2Ti 2:26  and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

2Pe 2:20  For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

2Pe 2:21  For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

2Pe 2:22  But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A DOG RETURNS TO HIS OWN VOMIT," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."

Heb 10:26  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27  but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

Heb 10:28  Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

Heb 10:29  Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Heb 6:4  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

Heb 6:5  and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

Heb 6:6  if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

David,

Right on brother!

Sharon.

Keep waiting David, I am not debating with you.

You have your mind all made up, and I would not waste time on trying to prove you wrong.  I've seen countless replies from other members with plenty of passages that contradict your beliefs, and what impact they have had on you?

As for your advice, I suggest you start following it...

Love to you Yael.

Veronika,

You rock!  I'm a big fan!

No one proclaims you just sit down. That is ridiculous. There si a right way to live. The good works we are called to do are not the requirement to keep salvation, but the result of a changed heart that is yielded to Him.

Lord Bless,

LT

v, 1 peter 1:4  and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by Gods power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. people can backslide, even for a season, but their salvation stands. when that happens there is a loss of fellowship with the Lord, or even loss of eternal rewards, but once sealed always sealed. it is not by our performance.God knew all the sin you would do to erase them forever, even when one falls away. the story of the prodical son comes to mind. these were His two sons, meaning they were both in the family. God may chasten even punish to get them to return and truly saved they will return.  how can one become unborn again? once His always His. no undoing.  merciful is He!!! being born again is permanent, not temporary. the price He paid was to high to renegotiate later on. shalom

Matthew 24:13
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Vero what does the verse mean in context? What is the chapter talking about?

To say that God secures our perseverance is not to say that we are passive it the process, however. He keeps us “through faith” (1 Peter 1:5) ---our faith. Scripture sometimes calls us to hold fast to our faith (Heb. 10:23, Rev. 3:11) or warns us against falling away (Heb. 10:26-29). Such admonitions do not negate the many promises that true believers will persevere (John 10:28-29, Rom. 8:38-39; 1 Cor. 1:8-9; Phi. 1:6) Rather, the warnings and pleas are among the means God uses to secure our perseverance in the faith, Notice that the warnings and the promises often appear side by side. For example, when Jude urges believers, “keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 21-24), he immediately points them to God, “who is able to keep you from stumbling. I used the McArthur Study bible to helped me with some notes here.

Matthew 24:12-13 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. What can be more obvious than what is being said here? The one who endures to the end will be saved. This is what I understand by verses such as this one, in light of the rest of scripture – the ones who persevere are the same ones who are saved. Our perseverance does not secure our salvation for is not due to works, since true believers are kept by the power for God through faith for salvation. (1Pet.1:5) God says: I will put my fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from me (Jer. 32:40) those who fall away from Christ give conclusive proof that they were never truly believers to begin with. 1John 2:19 these people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us. The warnings and pleas in scripture are among the means God uses to secure our perseverance in the Faith. I see God telling us to persevere until the end in faith, not to lose faith in Him and his power to keep us and then when the word calls us to overcome the world, God tells us the following in 1John 5: For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

>>What? you just get saved and go sit down somewhere" ?

Now Vero you know no one here believes that so can we Please let that go once and for all. To believe OSAS does not equate a license to sin. God is faithful even when we are not. When we are in sin do we share the things that are "in Jesus", (like "the life is in the Son" (1 john 5:11-12))?

The believer is secured not on works but God's work for Him. So he may not have life more abundantly, but God will finish what He started. God does not need Our permission to do that. He never says anywhere - I will finish if you let me and nothing can separate you from my love accept your own walking away from me. All are inferences made to scriptures.

>>God forbid' there is a requirement to keep your salvation , because your name can be removed from the Book of Life through disobedience without repentance.

Ex 32:33
And the LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.
NKJV

So we are saying that the God that knows all, will have my name written on the book of eternal life and then He will erase it if I lose my salvation. Why write it in if He knows I am going to lose it anyways?

Psalm 69:28
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And not be written with the righteous.

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE BOOK IN THE WORD THAT WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO. THERE IS ABOOK OF THE LIVING. SO COULD IT BE POSSIBLE
that the name of those who continue to sin even tho they know God, God can erase them off the book of the Living.

In other word is the book of the living the book that has all the names of the pople presently a live and when God’s people live in rebelliousness, God who is our creator can choose to kill us before our time. Like we see in:

Acts 5: 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last.

Or

1 John 5:16
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.

Love to you family

Vero,

>>SUPPOSE you didn't repent when that day comes? Then you die a carnal Christian. Carnal Christians are like unbelievers to me . They try to play Spiritual , and mixing the deeds of  the world with their walk with God.

I am 100% sure there are millions of Christians that die with un-repented sin. An accident happends and the child of God did not repent before dying. What will happened? Come on

Family, let us reason together… I am so glad GOD IS NOT LIKE US.

Amen!!!

 Canceled

David,

God is not like us.  He is just.  Who was it that said 'I fear for humanity when I consider that God is just'?

Sharon.

Sharon,

Amen and amen - God is just

 >>'I fear for humanity when I consider that God is just'?

I understand the quote and will only say that our God is all His attributes all the time. His love does not trump His justice or his holiness, but from what we see in scripture and his revealed character through it, we determine that God is just, perfect, holy all knowing etc... All the time.

So Praise God, He is worthy and good, so we can rest on that truth. Rather than fear for humanity which is perfectly ok in the way, I believe, the author of the quote intended it, we should pray for compassion for humanity. A compassion that will not allow us to be silent in life style and speech.

Let us preach the gospel with our lives. It is for freedom that God freed us.

An eternal seperation from God (Hell) awaits those who do not repent and believe.
