All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

On Friday, December 7 there is a movie to be released called "The Golden Compass" based on a trilogy of books for children by author Phillip Pullman. I went to SermonAudio.com and there was a blog there telling about this ungodly film. Pullman wants to get this generation of children to be the ones to not believe in God and his intent is to "kill God."
Then I went to Internet Movie Data Base and it tells about the movie starring Nicole Kidman.
It would be wonderful if we God's children would picket the movies showing it. Bill O'Reilly on the Fox O'Reilly Factor got people to picket against a movie called Redacted and it lost in the boxoffice. We believe in a true and living God and we allow the world to mock Him too much.
What do you think?

Please..........get this clear...........I am Noreen Moyer and I am the one who posted the discussion. There is a Webster and I can assume he is a male while I am female. So agree or disagree with the who really posted this. Thank you
I read the series about 5 years back. Honestly, it is just a fictional story based in a make-believe world. Don't let it bother you. Why waste all that energy being agitated? Use that time and spend it with God!
It is a very interesting movie and I loved it.
Susan...............do you TRULY love your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? He died a terrible death so you could have a way into heaven. Jesus was and is the Creator of the Universe yet we stand silent as He is mocked daily the world over. Drop a Koran into a toilet and the Muslims are out to lynch you. Name a teddy bear Muhammed like the children did from an Australian teacher. She nearly lost her life over it because again the Muslims wanted her dead. Is it easier to believe in a false god than our true God? Seems that way. You should never have "loved" that blasphemous movie.....or the other one..."The Passion of the Christ." Jesus did not die to get anyone's sympathy. He wants your spirit to be with Him.
God said to turn away from the appearance of evil...a movie like this one would be included in the "appearance of evil" I believe. It's not enough to just ask if something is bad...sometimes we have to ask if something is good. This world is not about us and our lives...it's about Him and His death on our behalf. He is everything that there is really...we are to live unto Him, for Him and because of Him. If we are truly His then anything that offends His holiness should offend us. He says that if we deny Him, He will deny us. We deny Him when we overlook attacks on Him and say that it doesn't really matter...that's exactly what the devil wants us to believe. Make no mistake about it, every decision we make every day we either make in a way that is God-honoring and shows that we are "zealous for good works" or not...I want to be on His side when all is said and done. He is the reason for everything and Satan is determined to blind us to His goodness through any means that He can. The writer of these books has stated that he hates God.
ive never seen or heard of the film and im glad, i get extremely defensive when it comes to things like that. its so accepted in todays society yet if we christians done the same to another religion especially muslim there would be uproar. has anybody seen the seven seas advert? saying ones body is a temple and worshiping the oil as they would God, then bend over to scratch their behinds. and what about the lady gaga video, alejandro. dressed as a nun covorting on the bed with a monk and she has an upside cross on her knickers. its disgusting and it makes me mad.

It's a movie, nothing more and that's how I view it. I don't base my views on what I see in a movie.

The comparisons to what muslims do are off the mark since we shouldn't be doing what they do. Muslims are seemingly trying to dictate to everyone what they can and can't think/write/say/believe and will enforce their view by force. At no point does Jesus say we are to act in this way. We cannot dictate what people can and can't watch, all we can do is take our own individual stand but not criticise those who do not take the same stand (Paul goes into some depth about this in Romans 14)

Grazer,

Note: My comment has nothing to do with the movie, but simply responding to the comment regarding  the Romans 14 passage.

Romans 14 is a great passage, but there are limits as to how far this freedom goes. It is constrained by the Bible, especially where the Word is clear on a subject.

Lord Bless,

My reference to Romans 14 was more referring to the criticism towards those Christians who enjoyed this movie. I may passionately and strongly disagree with someones views but I have never questioned the integrity of someones faith or questioned whether they love Jesus simply because I disagree with them as some have openly done on here.

I've read books by Dawkins and Dan Brown (yes I enjoyed the Da Vinci Code, book was far better than the movie though) Never seen this movie but as I said in my original post; it's a movie and I don't base my views on what I see in a movie.

Grazer,

One does not have to question a person's faith (whether they know and love Jesus) to question their actions. Again, I am not referring to the movie in this comment, but that some (maybe not you) attempt to take Romans 14 to mean that one can do whatever they want without restriction or consequences. Romans 14 starts out with "debatable matters." Not everything is debatable, especially when it is a clear teaching in Scripture. That is the simple point I am making.

Regarding whether we should question a person's faith. If their life actions or beliefs are so opposed to the teachings found in the Word it is important to question their faith to see if they are in Christ, more for their benefit than anything else. There are many who think that they are saved, but are not. How can I know this? One way is by the thousands of people who have come to faith later in life after they had assumed that they were saved most of their life, but were not.

I completely agree but comments like do you TRULY love your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? which was made in response to someone saying they enjoyed this movie is questioning peoples faith in my view. I don't believe we can do what we want without restriction so yeah, agree :)

As for views that are seemingly so opposed to the Word, that's not always an easy thing to discern. Sex outside marriage is clearly opposed to the Word but evolution with God as the designer splits opinion (I say its fine, others say not)  We can disagree without statements like the one I highlighted I think.

Back to the movie, people should pray and make up their own mind whether they should see it but I won't critcise those who do since I don't see it as an issue for the reasons I've stated

Peace with you

Grazer

westboro baptist church hasn't done that already? they picket everything lol
