All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Greetings All,

Have you read a book recently, other than the Bible, that touched you in some way that you think others might benefit from if they read it too?

There are two books I read recently that I recommend and an author to recommend as well.

1) Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado
2) Fearless by Max Lucado
3) Regal Books is producing new books that are being put together from A.W. Tozer's sermons and other material. They are all excellent. Anything Tozer is worth reading.

Hey Linda Ruth,

Six to eight books at a time, WOW. I do two at a time. I struggle to read one book cover to cover, but will comfortably read them if I switch back and forth ... go figure.

So many responses available and all will get me in trouble. I think I will take the 5th and just hum a while ... LOL ... playing it safe for a change.

Hi LT
I just finished Max's latest one: Outlive your Life.
Good read as they all are.

Rod,

While I was in South America I read Cure for The Common Life and It's Not All About Me, also good reads.

Hi Amanda.

Travelling Light is a great one of Max's books.
There are dozens of them.
He seems to write 3 or 4 every year.

They are such an easy read and yet such a great message each time.

When God whispers your Name is another good one.

עברית היא שפה קשה מאוד ללמוד.

Amanda,

I'm the one learning - Rod is naughty. He knows nothing! He went to google translation.

I find it easy to learn hebrew as in speaking it is but harder to write it. I tried to type a message to one of my friends in Canada who is learning as well. I wrote the message in hebrew as Rod has done above but did not think to translate it to see if it made sense - LOL what I translated was hillarious to say the least......

There is a teriffic DVD series that can be bought online called "Follow the Rabbi"
They are by an American pastor, Ray Van Der Laan.

There are 10 DVD's in the series and he takes groups around the Holy Land showing them all the important places from the bible and relating these stories to the various areas there.
Wonderful series and a real blessing if you get the opportunity to view them.
I have all 10 dvd's and watch them over and over.

Some of the places he goes are nothing like I ever imagined them to be from reading about them in the bible.
Just one I will touch on is the spring at El Gedi where David hid from Saul.
I expected a small fresh water spring bubling out of the ground when in fact there is a cascading waterfall and lush vegetation in the middle of the desert.
Simply stunning.

I to would love to visit the bible lands.

Amanda,

That would all just be lines on a page to me if I didn't have "Google translate". LOL

I haven't the patience to learn a langauge like Hebrew.
I will leave that to the celebral ones like You and Linda.

Amanda,

I have read that one at the encouragement of a friend. That is a good one too.

Yes, I like Max Lucado. We use his study guides as our Sunday School material. Currently we are doing "In the Grip of Grace." Also a good book.

LT,

I just pulled my 'In the Grip of Grace' off the shelf again last night. I had gotten about half way through it, and have now just picked it up again.

I own alot of Max Lucado. I like his simplistic approach to teaching.
I am reading Grace Based Parenting by Tim Keller.. I am loving this book. I'm taking my time to go through it, and it is wonderful.. Parenting by Grace--which is different from leniency. This book was answered prayer as I prayed for help in teaching and raising my boys. This was one of the things God put in front of me.

i am like Linda Ruth in that I usually have many books going at once. I keep one in my purse for when I am out of the house...something to read when I am just sitting and doing nothing else while away from home. It's a girl thing.

I rarely read a book cover to cover.. I usually refer back to them for specific teachings..I find that most of what I read is for the purpose of learning.. that's what's most enjoyable to me. I just noticed that of myself last night, I don't read for entertainment. That seems to be true of many of us. i do have some Chicken soup for the soul books.. that would be the closest to entertainment reading that I own... But honestly, they sit on the shelf. :-)

Last night I really needed to read something for comfort...so I pulled out Max Lucado's 'In the Grip of Grace'.

Blessings, Carla
