All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Do you think that satan knew about Jesus and the Holy Spirit when he (satan) was in heaven as one of the angels? I asked this because my thought is, if satan knew about Jesus and the Holy Spirit he wouldn't have tempted Jesus as accounted in the book of Mattew.

I guess God the Father didn't reveal the Son and the Holy Spirit to the angels because He knew about their disobident nature. He kept Jesus His only Son and the Holy Spirit His power, in His secret place knowing their time had not come. God knew that angles Micheal and Gabriel were strong enough to fight satan and his group of other disobident angels and chase them out of the heavenly kingdom. I think that when satan heard about Jesus Christ on earth, he had thought He was one of those claimers and he wanted to tempt Him with his useless offers.

What do you think?

Here is a thought on this. Genesis 3 v 15 And i will put enmity between you and the women and between your seed and her seed He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his Heel. Jesus received his divine power at his baptism he had to choose what he wanted to do with his power use it for others or use it for himself he chose to use it for others. satan if you read Ezekiel 28 v 11-15 shows that Satan chose to use who he was for himself. Jesus un did this act of selfishness of adam and eve and satan by being sacrifical. I believe Satan knew about Jesus and so he had to tempt him to see if he could corupt him like satan himself chose to corrupt himself. I hope this helps
Rev 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
Rev 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Rev 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

I would say yes satan knew because he tried to devour the child as soon as he was born:

Mat 2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
Mat 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him

Satan did finally have his way in killing Jesus on the cross but I guess the joke was on him - It is finished! Death is overcome - Halleluyah!

Good question! Many would say no; but I must say yes! The reason why so many say no, is because of a misunderstanding of scripture. In (1 Corinthians 2:6-8) Paul is talking about the difference of worldly wisdom even that of the mature rulers and Godly wisdom. Which is revealed through mystery. In v. 8 we read, "which none of the rulers of this age knew; (God's Wisdom) for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." This clearly has nothing to do with the devil not knowing! Only the difference between wisdom of the world and the wisdom of God through his followers. Let me ask you some questions and judge for yourself. Does Satan know the word of God? Yes! Does he know the 300 old testaments prophesies of the coming messiah? Of course! Is that why he put in the heart of Herod to kill all children under 2? Yes! Herod and the wise men even knew he was, (Matthew 2:1-4)! Did Satan not personally temp Jesus during his fast? Saying "if thall be the son of God"?Yes!(Matthew 4:3) Stop! Jesus never spoke a word of him being the son of God until after he came down from the fast and went into his ministry (Matthew 4:17). Or let me ask you this. How can most all of Satan's demons cry out and call Jesus "Lord", "Thou art the Son of God", "What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God"? (Mark 5:7-13) (Mark 3:11)... Also keep in mind that the man with the legions, "was possessed with the (devil)", (Mark 5:15). So again, how is it that all these unclean spirits who report to Satan and are under his command knew who Jesus was; but yet Satan did not? Keep in mind, Satan was the most craftiest in the garden. So in my scriptural judgment, I believe he did know! Just a misunderstanding of scripture.

Ok. Do you think he was just trying to tempt Christ, to see if He'd fall for him? He tries us daily and unless we stand in the word, we fall. I pray for standing on the solid rock daily. God bless.
i like to give you some more food for though ede. Satan rebelled he took1/3 of the angels with him. When adam and Eve took of the fruit they allowed satan and who he was to enter into this physical world Satan in my opinion wants to contiue this rebellion i believe in his arrogence he was trying to overpower God that was of course not possible. So he tried again with Jesus would Jesus give into temptation like satan did no he did not. He remained righteous he shall bruise your head meaning he can detroy death that is satan accordinng to Gen 3 v15 Jesus immerged vitorious over death meaning he sacrificed himself on the cross and he rose again since he did when we beleive in him he gives us eternity as well.
Satan asked to sift Peter as wheat - yes he was trying to tempt Christ and pull down the plan of God Most High. Thankfully in Peter's case Jesus had prayed for him that his faith stay strong and Jesus also sought to restore Peter when he did fail. Our Shepherd is ever faithful even when we are not Ede. He is so good to us.

No weapon formed against us Ede will prosper. If God be for us who can stand against us. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Stand in His word Ede and you will be fine - abide in the vine and you will bare fruit abundant.

Many blessings to you

P.S. Also satan tried to bring down Job - we are in a battle Ede - take up your sword and press on.
very good Linda you are absolutely right i love the book of Job it is my favorite book we learn in this book one of the most important pieces of information God could give us satan is on the prowl God did not cause all of the loss Job sufferered satan did this is very important God allowed this yes but we needed to learn that satan is a powerful enemy but we have the power over him.
Hey sis Linda,

This is a fun topic to ponder upon and it sure is good to come home from church to find one of your messages on the thread. :) We missed you.

You asked :

>>Does he know the 300 old testaments prophesies of the coming messiah? Yes, Satan was aware of those, but the question to zoom in, I think is this one: Did Satan know that the Word would become flesh or was he expecting the messiah to be from the human race.?

What say you? What scripture can back up the fact that Satan knew Jesus was the Word incarnate?
David,

Firstly, I did not ask that question but the gentleman in the link that I put up did. I thought he had some interesting points in regard to satan knowing that Jesus was the Son of God on this earth. The question that was asked in that link was, “Did Satan know Jesus was the son of God before his death?” I believe he did.

Nonetheless you raise an interesting question (fun topic) in regard to, “Did satan know that Jesus was the Word incarnate?” This has got me diving into the word again (not that I ever leave it) and that is a good thing – Halleluyah! I'm always up for a challenge or a good fight.

I will get back to you if I find anything worthy of challenging the newest moderator of AAG. Congratulations by the way.

Thank you!!! The Link you posted is a good one. I am researching too. :) Don't be a stranger.
David,

You say:

So with all the above in mind we can see that Jesus is the Lord and has been from eternity. Hence Lucifer was fully aware of Him and his presence. If Satan is aware of God, he is fully aware of the Word and the Holy Spirit. Satan knew about the word and the Holy Spirit, but not about Jesus.

Ok thoughts – if satan knew about the Word and the Holy Spirit which we know God is Spirit - John 4:24. The Spirit is the Spirit of the Living God – true, then surely satan would have been familiar with Jesus in His pre-existent state that He had with the Father in the beginning.

We know that Jesus existed with the Father before the existence of the world – John 17:5.

Satan himself knows the word better than we do and quoted it when tempting Jesus in the wilderness in a very deceptive way - the original twister of God’s word.

Satan is also very aware of the events in the earth and presents himself before God to usurp God’s plans in regard to man – Peter and Job being examples.

We know that in Daniel satan was aware of help being sent and sought to circumvent it:

Dan 10:12 And he said to me, Do not fear, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. And I have come because of your words.
Dan 10:13 But the king of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty one days. But, lo, Michael, one of the first rulers, came to help me. And I stayed there with the kings of Persia.

Back up a few verses and you read this:

Dan 10:5 then I lifted up my eyes and looked: And behold! A certain man was clothed in linen, whose loins were wrapped in fine gold from Uphaz.
Dan 10:6 His body was also like the beryl, and his face looked like lightning. And his eyes were like torches of fire; and his arms and his feet in color like polished bronze; and the sound of his words were as the noise of a multitude.

Who do you think this man was?

I believe it was the Son of God! Though not as yet incarnate but in the appearance of a man – true – just as in Revelation 3:13, 2:18 and 14:14.

Where am I going with all this – my point is satan knew of the messenger coming to Daniel which was Jesus and satan stood against him – why? How did satan know this? How was he privy to this? How was he privy to the knowing someone (the word - Jesus) was being sent to Daniel?

Another vein of thought – we agree that Mary was visited by an angel prior to her conception – true! If satan can circumvent a messenger – Jesus himself then surely he could have been privy to the announcement to Mary of the Holy Spirit coming upon her to conceive Jesus (the word) in flesh. Thus he would have known that something was in the wind so to speak……which was why he sought to kill the child through Herod.

Pondering further….

Very well my sister.

There are differences of opinion about Daniel 10:5 being Jesus, but most believe that the man spoken of in that verse was "the angel of the Lord" (the word), which is a theophany, an appearance of God in physical form. An interesting fact is that the appearances of "the angel of the Lord" cease after the incarnation of Christ.

However sis this does not teach us that the Word was in the appearance of man before His incarnation, but rather that the Word took on the appearance of a man a few times. Angels appeared as man when delivering messages as well. :)

I have missed your interaction, man is good to have you back here.
Blessings and luv back at you
