All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

David,

If you don't want to discuss this issue that is your right. But I have shown how the Catholic Faith lines up with Scripture, from Scripture. If that is not good enough for you what does that have to do with me?

Sharon.
Sharon, I understand David's frustration. He addressed your concerns in a scholarly fashion, but you responded to him as though he had ignored you. I think you are so defensive about Roman Catholicism that sometimes you don't really listen to Evangelicals. And maybe you are tired of hearing them say the same things about Roman Catholicism, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some truth in what they're saying. Sharon, at this point, I feel that I must ask why you spend so much time or effort in a predominantly evangelical on-line community when evangelicals bother you so much? The only three reasons I can think of are (1) that you simply get some kind of perverse "kick" out of arguing, (2) that you like feeling persecuted, or (3) you are hoping to win converts to Roman Catholicism. I suggest that you be honest about your motives, and that you ask yourself, "Am I married to Jesus, or am I married to the Roman Catholic Church?"
Hi Sharon,

I too have not responded further to this discussion because it seems to me that you are more concerned with the Catholic faith then with Jesus. I have said it before here and I will say it again.. This is supposed to be about Jesus.. Only Jesus.. not catholicism.

I do not want to participate in this discussion because it is divisive. I'm not saying you are divisive, but the very nature of this discussion is divisive.

Love in Christ, Carla
The only reason this turned into a discussion in the first place is that some insisted and even demanded explanations about basic Church dogma; such as the Rosary, Mary, the Saints, etc. So, I spent hours going through Sacred Scripture to show the biblical basis for these and other Church practices.
God Bless you Sharon Theresa, and your beautiful family.
In Him, Carla
God Bless you as well my sister!

Hello Sharon, is there anybody in there?

You started this thread. No one was demanding anything.
Sharon -

I truly believe your heart is in the right place beloved. I love you in Christ. You are my sister. You have taken it upon yourself to try to do away with the horrible divisions between RC members and Protestants. I see it as beautiful but unfortunately an impossible task in view of our doctrinal differenences. We can't agree in doctrinal matters, but we can agree to love Jesus and shine for Him. What’s impossible with men is possible with God. Be in courage sis, we appreciate you and above all else, God knows your good intentions and loves you for it. :)

We can agree to disagree and enjoy fellowship in the many other things we do agree on. We do have a lot in common. A zeal for God and unity in the Spirit, but above all - My precious Jesus is your Lord and Savior as well.

Hey - love you. I pray your beautiful family is blessed.
As I have stated many times, if Christianity is a TEST of doctrine then most people on the earth are lost! The fact is that Christianity has never been solely about doctrine. Christianity is about love. Period. As we grow in Christ we grow in love. And those who have all the 'right' doctrine and yet have no love in their hearts are no more Christian than Ted Turner.

Let's stick to love. Let's stick to Christ.
Dear Sharon

I'm curious about your statement

" The fact is that Christianity has never been solely about doctrine. Christianity is about love. Period. "

Jesus has told us " If you love Me , keep My commandments ". I understand by this that we cannot truely love Him , by keeping His commandments if we don't know His "commandments".

When Jesus spoke of the worshippers God was looking for, He said that they must worship Him in spirit and in 'truth'. We must know the 'truth ' before we can worship Him ' in spirit and in truth' . There is only one 'truth' . That is why our doctrine must be 'right' .

We cannot separate 'doctine' from love because we cannot know how to be obedient ( which is the proof of our love to Christ )to the ' truth of God if we don't know what the ' truth ' is. And contrary to the world 's belief there is only ' one' truth.

That is why we must strive to know what the 'truth' is. That's why Paul told Timothy to study to show himself approved ... ' rightly dividing ' the word of truth.

You said " Let's stick to love" . Absolutely!! " Let's stick to Christ " . Amen and Amen. But we can do neither without truely understanding what Christ expects of us. That's why our doctrine is so important.

I will readily agree , however , that 'knowing the truth' is useless unless we ' do the truth'. It's about as useless as trying to serve God without knowing what He truely expects of us.

God bless you , my friend
Christ gave us two commandments. That we love the LORD our God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our mind. And that we love our neighbor has we love ourselves. (Matt. 22:37-39)
Sharon,

I like the following statement from R.C. Sproul,

"There has been an unfortunate tendency to downplay the importance of the intellect in the Christian life. However, to neglect the role of the intellect in the Christian life is to deny the command to love the Lord God with all of our mind."

I quote that here because it is through our intellect (Renewing of the mind) throught the word of God (doctrine) that we love God with all our mind. Of Course this is done by the Spirit of God enlightening us and leading us to all truth, so we can love God with all our mind.

Blessings
