2 Corinthians 1:20-22 (New King James Version)
20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 1:20-22 (The Message)
20-22 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God's Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.
There are similarities between the two words, but one notable difference. The word guarantee in 2 Cor 1:20-22 comes from a Greek word that is used only three times and all three relate to the giving of the Holy Spirit. The Greek word includes a security or surety being given assuring the fulfillment of the promise beyond just a spoken word. That is why we see the inclusion of the word "deposit." The Holy Spirit has been given and He now indwells believers. Thus we have the Word and the Spirit to assure us of the fulfillment of the promise of our salvation.
Both are promises. Both will come to pass as God is trustworthy. The guarantee is a promise plus the giving of the Spirit Who brings an inner assurance and peace wrought by His working in us.
“Quote”
One thing I will advise you in regard to the plural pronouns in the Bible and especially the NT. These pronouns are not inclusive of the general populous of the world.
They are specific to only the writer and those to whom he has written.
In this I know he is not speaking to the general populous.
The writer was Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit and he is writing to the “New Creation” The children of God, those that believe on Him “Jesus Christ” and has received Him as their Lord and Savior. An then He is speaking to their Spirit, not to the person himself. Or to the flesh, the carnal mind. Or the “Intellect” Because the carnal mind, intellectually, could never understand it anyway. Because it is Spiritually discerned. Unless a person has his mind renewed to the Word, or the indwelling Spirit of God, He will be totally confused when He says we are “Children of God” or even saying that we are the “seed of Abraham“, we being as gentiles in the flesh.
What a promise and assurance we have in Him!
To me this is a promise and a guarantee 1Jo.5:14-15
God gave us the promises and then, through our Lord, Christ Jesus, and belief on His Name, He gave us the Holy Spirit as the guarantee that we would be able to accomplish all that He has given us to do to receive the promises.
The promises were actually given to Abraham and his seed. Not to seeds as of many, In other words, not to Abraham’s natural descendents but to the one seed, which was Christ. Now that we are in Christ, the promises are ours. So you have the promises just by believing and receiving Christ as Lord.
The guarantee is, if you receive Him, the promises are yours.
So you don’t have to do anything to receive the promises, except receive Christ as Savior.
Does this make sense?
Repent of your sins and believe on Him (Christ)
Acts 16:30-32 (KJV)
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 3:19 (KJV)
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
There is nothing else for us to do to be saved, If it is, then you are trying to do it by works. Read Rom.4, all of it.
His Grace is sufficient for our salvation. Grace alone will not save you, faith alone will not save you, it is by Grace through faith.
Another good example of Grace and by Faith for deliverance, will be in Acts 3:6-16
Well it really doesn’t say, so it would be purely conjecture on our part if it isn’t spelled out, But I would assume that it would be what ever the Lord laid on their hearts at that time to speak. They were a little more sensitive to the Holy Spirit than most of are today, and I believe the Holy Spirit told them what needed to be said at that time. That would be an excellent demonstration of the Grace of God in action.
That Divine influence upon their hearts.
Abraham just believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Rom.4:3, Gal.3:6, Ja.2:23
All the law of Moses was fulfilled in Christ. Luke 24:44
Not that the law had passed away, but are now written in our hearts, and we are now led by the Spirit of God that will reveal to us the law. All of the law now is by faith, we walk by faith, not by sight. 2Cor.5:7 “Faith” Pistis = Conviction and or persuasion of the heart.
True, By continuing in the Word you will discover more truth.
But it is not required just to be saved or born again.
But if you want a deeper understanding of the Word and of God, then it is a matter of believing what the Word is saying and obeying it.
Then you will understand the “New Creation” and who you are in Him.
You will also understand your privileges as a Child of God.
You can come boldly to the throne of God and stand in His presence as Jesus did. Jesus was a Son of God, You are a Son of God.
Jesus had the nature of God, You have taken on that same nature of God. Or God has imparted unto you His Nature when you received Him as your Lord and Savior, Jesus was that New Creation, You have received Him and now you are a New Creation, You became a “new species” a new man over which Satan has no dominion. Praise God!!! We are more than conquerors through Him.
Could we not simplify this by saying what Romans 14:22-23 (KJV) says ?
22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
The laws have been established in your heart, So how could you by faith make them void? That's how you establish the law. The Ten Commandments were given to the unsaved, after you are born again or become a "New Creature" they become your attitude, or personality, not a set of rules to follow that are written on paper, but by faith you walk. It is God that worketh in you, both to will and do of His good pleasure.
So Obedience is better than sacrifice. Walk in the spirit and ye will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
What is it to walk in the spirit? Is it not to walk in Love? if you walk in love you will not intentionally break the law. Especially without conviction! John.13:34,35
Dear Mr. Jones
Would you please give scripture to support your views?
Indeed God’s Word is law.
Are you referring to the Word that is in you? That is law as well.
We obey the Word. This Word is the same Word that became flesh and dwelt amongst us. The Word tells me that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness; to them that believe. Rom.10.
Christ is not the last name of Jesus; Christ is an epithet of Jesus. “Jesus the Christ“.
I am sure you know this, but the Promise was given to Abraham 430 years before the Law was ever given.
Galatians 3:19 (KJV)
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Galatians 3:23 (KJV)
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Galatians 3:17 (KJV)
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Romans 3:19-20 (KJV)
19 Now we know that what things so ever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Are you under the law?
And do you have a sin consciousness?
Obviously you study the Word; but could you please tell me what you know about the “New Creation?
And please give confirmation by the Word!
I’m sorry if I don’t fully understand what you are trying to tell me.
Your lack of use of scripture makes your attempt at conveyance of thoughts difficult.
Blessings
