We are losing the power of words and their deeper understanding. In many circles today we are being told to stop using some terms that have been associated with Christianity that help define our understanding regarding Biblical truth. The argument that is offered is that these terms turn people off, or that they do not understand them. (For clarity, when I said “power” we are not talking life changing power, that is Jesus’ work. I am talking the power to communicate effectively and clearly).
If they do not understand these words, then teach them the depth of the meaning of the term. If it turns them off, then they are rejecting the truths regarding Jesus and His work in our life. When will we stop trying to reinvent the wheel?
I wonder? If we walk like the world, talk like the world, think like the world and act like the world are we not of the world? Are we not called to be different? Some will say that I do not need to know these words. If you want to walk in your Christian faith, you may not need to know the word (though I think you should) you better understand what they mean. These relate to the basic principles of life in Christ.
Here are some of the words I refer to. Take a minute and look at the list and see if you know what they mean, or have you been missing the beauty found in these terms:
Repentance
Justification
Regeneration
Salvation
Sanctification
The Blood of Christ (Not listed in all dictionary)
Sin
Judgment
Discipline (see Chastisement)
Redemption
Substitutionary Sacrifice (Not listed in all dictionary)
Righteousness
Holiness
Incarnation
Apocalypse
There are other words, but this is a quick list I came up with. I purposely did not define them here. Find a good Bible dictionary and research them and be blessed by what you learn if you are unfamiliar with these terms. And, oh yeah, don’t skip over the Scripture verses that the Bible dictionary will use to substantiate what they mean. Go to God’s Word and see what the Bible says regarding these issues. Jewels discovered are better than the ones handed to you on a platter.
Comments are welcomed. If you research it, share what you learn. If you agree with me regarding give a Hoo Rah. If you don't agree, explain why.
Lord Bless,
