One of my best friends, who I have been witnessing to for almost 20 years, has invited me to attend his childs catholic baptism. I am conflicted about attending because I do not believe in infant baptism, but I believe in being a supportive friend. I'd appreciate the comments of others.
Ohhh by no means did I mean by bolding the last statements to mean that they were your questions to me, but I reckon you are following LT's advise to bold the questions of the inquisitor.
We don't all follow that pattern, hence when I quote you, I always precede the quote with -You said: and then start the quote.
The last statements are my questions directed to you. So I did not bold them to specify that you were asking me such questions, but simply to emphasize my questions to you.
You asked:"Could you show me from the Bible the doctrine that states that God is offended by a Baby being baptized?"
Well sister as you know and as Ron and myself have stated multiple times the bible does not mention the practice. I also stated in one of my previous post that there is nothing wrong with baptizing babies if the meaning attached to it is not heresy.
However the meaning attached to the baptism of infants by the Catholic Church does go against the biblical doctrine of regeneration. I am sure you can understand what we are saying. Any and ALL traditions and doctrines must align to scripture, if they do not, we should not adhere to them, and the baptism of babies with the meaning the Catholic Church gives it, is heresy.
My question to you: Can you tell me why you think that a teaching that goes against biblical truth is ok to follow and practice, since you are ok with the baptism of Babies in the Catholic church, I am assuming you are ok with the their doctrinal teaching behind the sacrament?
Sis I would like to thank you for the healthy exchange we are having, may God blessed you.
Sharon: "Could you show me from the Bible the doctrine that states that God is offended by a Baby being baptized?"
David: "Well sister as you know and as Ron and myself have stated multiple times the bible does not mention the practice."
That's my point. If, as you admit, the Bible, which I read daily, does not mention this practice (infant baptism) then how can we assume that God is offended by a Baby being baptized? If God was offended wouldn't He let us know? Now I don't know for certain that He is not offended but you don't know for certain that He is offended, no one does because, as you mentioned multiple times the bible does not mention the practice.
David: "Can you tell me why you think that a teaching that goes against biblical truth is ok to follow and practice, "
I don't.
David: since you are ok with the baptism of Babies in the Catholic church, I am assuming you are ok with the their doctrinal teaching behind the sacrament?
I don't really have a firm enough grasp on the doctrinal teaching behind the sacrament to answer at this time. Let me look into it. I'll get back with you. I could be wrong. I am open to being taught, and corrected, if I am wrong.
Thank you for your continued support of my Spiritual education:)
and the baptism of babies with the meaning the Catholic Church gives it, is heresy.
I disagree.
You may be interpreting Christ's words through the lens of Sola Fide instead of interpreting Paul's letters through the lens of Christ's words. Once you shift your point of view you may realize that faith is not alone.
Yes, Faith is necessary for salvation but so is obedience to Christ in terms of doing good deeds, Baptism, and partaking of the Body and Blood; all are necessary. Consider them the other side of a coin.
