Can we lose our Salvation?

this is a topic that always brings lots of answers... but, for me, I would simply say, that God has to draw us before we can come to him...

Salvation is a gift that is freely given.

If we could obtain it on our own power, or merit, then why did Jesus die?

If we have to keep it, by our own power or strength.. then it is not a gift.. but, something that we have to work for.

also, if we can loose our salvation, then how are we going to enjoy what we have been given???

I choose to believe that the God who called us, is big enough to keep us, and also, he knew exactly what it would take, before he ever called us. do you not agree?

Sarah - remember the story Jesus told regarding the prodigal son? This is undoubtedly the most compelling and reassuring parables of Jesus that was ever recorded in the Bible. It is found in Luke 15:11-32. As the story goes, a boy decides one day that he wants to leave his father's house, see the world, and collect his inheritance now. Many days pass by. Then, after squandering his money, living a life in total disagreement with how he was raised, and breaking his father's heart, he comes to his senses...and begins the journey back home. He doesn't care what his father does with him as long as he can eat and find shelter...even if he is reduced to a hired-hand.
His father, seeing him a still a ways off (see how the father was anxiously and steadfastedly looking for his son's return), rushes out to shower him in hugs & kisses. He throws a banquet in his honor and restores him to his original place in the home - not as a servant as his son was surely willing to be, but as his son. (Note that the father did not have to file adoption papers again.)
Jesus told this story to powerfully illustrate the truth about His father's love. It is totally unearned, completly unquestioned, forever unfaltering, and will always outlast our childish penchant for getting ourselves into mischief. When we respond to His call, ask for His forgiveness, accept His son Jesus to be our Lord, we are ushered directly into the throne room and grafted into the family of God. We are now a King's kid! And nothing can ever separate us from the love of our heavenly Father. I hope this gives some peace. :)
