Evangelism... witnessing... fulfilling the Great Commission... What does it all mean?
Christian evangelism is when we share our faith with others
Jesus commanded his disciples to spread his message to the entire world.
This is referred to as "evangelism".
Christians practice evangelism in many different ways, ranging from "friendship evangelism" to sending missionaries to other countries.
Evangelism is commonly combined with service. For example, missionaries often run medical facilities and teach.
In order to be effective in evangelism, Christians need to have our own house in order. The most effective kinds of local evangelism are based on individual Christians providing attractive examples, and churches being welcoming and friendly.
2 Cor 5:17-20
17 What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!
18 All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And
God has given us the task of reconciling people to him.19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others.
20
We are Christ's ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, "Be reconciled to God!
There are certainly groups that go around from door to door or preach in public. However Christianity normally spreads to friends and family. This kind of evangelism is based on Christians having lives that show God's love, and on finding ways to talk about what we believe in without being obnoxious.
