All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

When is it right to ask God for help when the world needs so much love? I have lots going on in my life but in comparison to poverty and hunger and war in the world, do I have the right to ask for help? Am I being selfish? My world feels like it is falling apart, but should I look at my life compaired to someone who has nothing or is this an age of quick fixes? Do I need to prove more to God that I love him more? I dont actively go to church but I talk to him all the time. I try not to ask for help but pray for others who need help.

Janine, of course you have the right to ask God for help, not only that, God wants His children to ask Him for help and you don't need to prove anything to Him, God loves each and every one of us. I believe that when one of His children ask Him for something, He stops what He is doing and listens and He asks 'what is it you want me to do for you?' and with that question posed to us we must eagerly give our prayers to our Father.

When I first became a Christian, I had great difficulty in asking God for anything, as children my family were taught that it was rude to ask. I would pray for others but I had great shame in asking for anything for myself, but I soon came to realise that God really is my Father and I lean and depend on Him more than I ever have anyone else. I only learned of this through my own child who leans on me for everything. When she asks me for something, I stop and listen, consider her request and give her an answer ( maybe not straight away ). I truly believe that as children of God, He does they very same for us.

Be honset with Him, tell Him how difficult you find asking, He understands.

Matthew 6:5-13
Hello Janine...

Yes.. we have the right to ask God for help. Continually lay everything down at the foot of the cross..
What does Jesus say about this:

1Pe 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you

God bless those who realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs (Matt 5:3)

In Colossians 4:2 we are told by Paul 'devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart'

Colossians 3:15 ..the context is living the New life as a Christian... verse 15 says "And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

I'm listing your questions here for easy reading...and to make sure I don't leave anything out.. I am also looking forward to other brothers and sisters along with Moomins to post here as an ancouragement to you...

Yes! When you ask God for help..and pray to Him with a thankful heart, you will see answered prayer in your life...your faith will be strengthened, and you will live out fully thankful to Christ for all He has done and is doing.. you are right in praying for others also. Others will see this in your life and Glorify our Magnificient God as they too will come to know Him.

Am I being selfish?
It is only selfish to NOT ask for God's help. He wants to help you because he loves you.. He is God..and nothing is too hard for Him. He can help you...and help others at the same time.. He has a way of knitting people's lives together... all for His Glory! What an AWESOME God we serve! When you ask for help..you are strengthening and doing His will... HE works it out. not us. Our finite minds cannot grasp this fully.

My world feels like it is falling apart, but should I look at my life compaired to someone who has nothing or is this an age of quick fixes?
Isaiah 40:31

Do I need to prove more to God that I love him more?

Offer yourself as a living sacrifice to Him. Part of this is asking for His help.. His arm is NOT too short!.. Don't under-estimate the Power of God!

I hope this helps.. Love in Christ, Carla
Dear Charles..

God Bless you.. you have summed it up beautifully here:

Paul says in Phillipians 4:6-7 " Be anxious for nothing; but in EVERY THING by PRAYER, and Supplication with Thanksgiving LET YOUR REQUEST BE MADE KNOWN UNTO GOD

Paul is not giving a request or suggestion. It is an order or demand. He does not present the solution for worry as an option but a requirement. The teacher that told us this said that Paul worded it so strongly because of the necessity of keeping fear and worry from hindering our walk with and and our service to God.

This is what I was trying to say...and in all the words I said....it wasn't until I read your words.. and said 'YES' that's it!

Love and Blessings in Christ, Carla
Dear Charles,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I feel so comfortable about asking questions on this web site and bless you for being there and replying. Thank you so much. I will be talking to God in a different light (although I do tend to ramble on to him........).

Hey Janine,

Keep in mind that when we approach God that we are not adding to His plate and burdening Him with more or in some way taxing Him. God is the Creator of the universe and all that is in it. He holds it all together and is not the least bit stretched by that work. Evil cannot touch Him and thus He is not burdened or overloaded by the war between God and evil. With but a word it would all cease or be changed.

I point this out only to encourage us that God is not able to be exhausted by us, there is no straw that broke the camel's back. He not only can handle holding the universe together, thwarting evil and responding to our intercession, He also wants to handle our cares and heartaches. He does all of this without breaking a sweat or needing a moments rest. This is beyond our comprehension, but we know it to be true according to His word.

Jesus tell us to come to Him in Matthew 11:28-30; 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast our cares upon Him; and Hebrews 4:16 tells us to come boldly in our hour of need.

God is big enough to handle it all and loving enough to respond to each one accordingly.

Lord Bless,
LT

God bless you and your family,

There's nothing too small or too big for God. He cares about everything in your life. He loves it when we come to Him and tell him everything. Just lay your heart out there and spill the beans.
God bless,
Mary O.
