I have a problem of not forgiving myself,I have lifelong sin that has followed me everywhere I go,And now after asking and asking and asking God to forgive me,I can not make myself forgive myself,Can someone help me?
Hi,
I would like to mention to you that years ago one fellow told me that if God Can Forgive You, then why can't you forgive yourself. God is in much higher standing than anyone of us, and we must ask ourselves why are we putting ourselves above God in this. If God can forgive us, then who are we to hold onto the guilt, remorse, anger, and on and on and never forgive yourself. All we do is keep beating ourselves up over those things God has forgiven us for. Instead of seeing it as forgiving ourselves, start to accept His grace, confess to another, and accept the fact that this is your story for your witness to others. After this, give God the thanks for blessing you with the gift He has blessed you with, your circumstances that He wants you to use for Him.
I take it that you believe in God, and this is awesome, but are you really believing what He says to you? There is a big difference here. We can believe in Him, and this can be done as a thing to do or make a statement of some sort, but we fail in the area where we can't accept His grace on us, or we are weak in really believing what He is really telling us. If you believe what He is saying, then you will put the past behind you and move forward. Do you feel so guilty that you don't feel you are worthy of His forgiveness? If you are then, start searching out some good things in yourself and give Him thanks for blessing you in them. If you can spend your day in and day out focusing on your negative areas, then start taking a few moments everyday and see the positives in your life. You may say you don't have any, well then you would be calling God a liar, and I know that God cannot lie.
What did Jesus tell the woman at the well? After having many husbands and etc., He looked at her in love and said go and sin no more. If he did it back then, and since He is the same today as back then, then you must start to believe Him when He tells you that you are forgiven and so worthy of Him.
One thing I also will suggest is that whatever you are going through, you could use these things to better the Kingdom of God, instead of always being negative, and being in depression about yourself. You got to start seeing yourself the way God sees you, and from cover to cover in the Bible, the message is clear that we confess them to another, in confiedence, pray over them and give them to God. Then we will have freedom from them. Look at all the goodness these times can bring to bless others. You, I, and thousands of others must look beyond our circumstances and reach out to others and stop focusing on our own little world.
