All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

In our Jesus Discovery Group, we are studying John's Gospel.

We are up to John 1:14:
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

So I have a question about TRUTH!! Jesus was FULL of TRUTH!! He was and is TRUTH. He said, "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life..."

So if we have Jesus, WE have the TRUTH, right?

But it seems that many Christians believe (and claim) they have the truth, but the "truths" don't agree. Why is this so? Can we say who is right and who is wrong?

And really, HOW MUCH of the TRUTH does each one of us have??

Hello Jeanette, Great post!
These are just a few scriptures of what the Lord says.
God is Awesome in these scriptures!

Colossians 2: 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature,[a] not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

Psalm 119:30
I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws.

Isaiah 45:19
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.

John 3:21
But those who live by the truth come into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

John 7:18
Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

2 Corinthians 4:2
Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.

2 Corinthians 13:8
For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

James 1:18
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
1 John 2:4
Those who say, "I know him," but do not do what he commands are liars, and the truth is not in them.

1 John 2:8
Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

2 John 1:2
because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever:

Why don't we agree? We are not all at the same level of knowledge and understanding. The Holy Spirit gives according to the will of the Father. There is scripture on this if you would like. Solomon prayed for his wisdom and God granted his prayer.

Right and wrong? This is why I try to give God's word and not my own. If I gave my own than it would only be my opinion and I would be trying to help me. I know that God's word is truth and when written or spoken it glorifies God and helps to build up the church.

God Bless you,
Mercy
Hey Jeanette,

Jesus is truth and the Word (written) of God is also truth given to us regarding Jesus, the Father, salvation and various other topics that the Father saw fit to instruct us on and bless us with. Today, we have as believers the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to guide, instruct and convict us as necessary.

How much truth (Knowledge from this point on in this response) is a good question. God has revealed to us much truth, but to say we have all truth would be incorrect. For example, do we know what God was doing before He created the heavens and the earth? We have all we need according to God. We also are told that we are given the mind of Christ, but this is not to be taken as the completed mind with all knowledge, but a mind that has come into alignment with Him and in His likeness. We now have the abilitly to learn and understand the truth given to us by God. We start out as babes and begin to grow. Thus, as Mercy said, we are not all at the same level of knowledge and understanding.

Why don't we agree? Several reason from my point of view. 1) Level of knowledge. 2) Level of maturity, letting go of self and my way and surrendering to God andHis way. 3) Method of interpretation. Different people approach the Word of God from different angles. Some read it primarily as literal, while others read it as allegoric. Some try to read it using a numerical conversion code. 4) Then the are other factors that weigh in such as dispensation and covenant theology. 5) You also have how one then applies the Word of God. You have legalist, fundemntalist and liberals and isolationalist. Many would argue that they do not worry about all that, they just focus on Christ. The reality is what we believe fits into the various camps and form our core-beliefs.

Due to these various differences, and there are many more, we see the difficulty of all believers coming together in a single meeting in unity. There are differences over baptism, communion, salvation, etc... Many of the differences are merely preferences that man has turned into doctrines. When this happens we have a whole new set of difficulties. The key is to identify the core values that are essential and non-negotiable and focus on them and come together in unity. We can agree to disagree on the non-essentials and still live in harmony.

So, as you may see, it is not as simple as just sitting down and reading God's Word together and getting the same answer. This is not because the Holy Spirit is confused, but rather we tend to be taught in a manner and are unwilling to let go and adjust according to the leading of His Spirit. On AAG people come from the various points of view. Though their view may be different (As long as it is not a core-value) than our own we need to respect one another as brothers, debate the issues in love seeking the Holy Spirit to shine through revealing truth and adjusting us where we need to be adjusted.

Who is right? Only God is completely right. The rest of us are simply children, of which none of us have it all correct on every topic covered in the Bible. Thus, we must remain teachable our entire life.

Lord Bless,
LT
