I find it interesting what they believe. I know what I believe, and I believe God is spirit. The trinity. But how do I convince that to a mormon when they go directly to certain scriptures in the bible and show me that is says He is flesh. example:How did God have a SON? example:We are made in HIS image. Also they point out that God "knew us" before we came to earth, so we must have all been spirit babies with a heavenly mother." Anyway, help me to help them.
Hi Paige,
Interesting...this conversation. It is good to be challenged in our own faith. It is good to struggle with these questions. For now, I just have a starting point. First of all, I don't understand the Mormon religion so bear with me. But the fact that it is a 'religion', makes me want to back away.
Do they believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour of the world?
Jesus is God in the flesh. He can down to earth as a humble human (the most humble one could possibly imagine), just to reconnect with us in a full recipracle( i can't spell that word) relationship. The message of Jesus is irreligious. I find that many 'religious' people will take scripture as it suits them, and not the message as a whole (holy as God is holy). There is a lot of symbolism in the bible. Much of it is spoken through the parables. Ask them what they think about the parables. If there is any confusion in their answers, it is not from God. Whenever I am confused, I cross reference it in the bible, and you will find the support of the Word within itself. There are several places you can cross reference for evidence. When they make a point, ask them to cross reference it with another point of scripture in the bible.
In answer to the question; How did God have a son? Well, he's God, we're not. I believe it because He said it, and therefore it is true. My faith is in Him, because he has proven his faithfullness in all areas of my life. It's not up to us to question God, and when we begin to do so, we are on shaky ground. It's kind of like asking "How old is the earth?". The answer is, I don't know, my faith lies in Jesus. I hope this helps. I will 'look to the book' and be back with some scripture when I get some time. Please be careful to not base your faith on the evidence of this world. God is not of this world. He gave it to us to 'manage'. I pray that all of this will draw you closer to God, who is the way, the truth and the light.
Hi Paige....I just noticed the bottom part of your question.
God is Holy...complete all within himself. He is male and female....within himself. HOLY COMPLETE! Please go onto my personal page here and listen to my videos. There is a Father's love letter I have downloaded.
Also....guess what ..I'm recommending another book. What is the FAther like? Author is W. Phillip Keller. I am doing a personal bible study on it now. The final chapter "I Am Holy".
I wish we were neighbours, I could share my books with you. For now, we're neighbours of the heart.
Hello!
Thank you for your help. I totally understand what you are saying, and thank you for the advice. I didnt mean to sound pride-ful. I guess maybe sometimes I dont explain things too well. I had a Lds member come to me and asked me that he "heard " that God was flesh because we were made in His image. I told him that God came in the flesh to earth to save us and redeem us as Jesus. He knew all that, but He thought even before Jesus, God was flesh. So I was trying to explain to him showing him from the bible word for word what it says about that but he was not convinced. I believe what I believe but trying to explain to someone when they have questions about what God is looks like can be a little difficult for me. I dont want to give a bad answer. Sorry, that is all I was saying. Thank you for helping me rethink what I said. Its hard for me to explain sometimes. My brain just spins and spins.
I sell my artwork, yes. The original of those Leopards sold a while ago, but I do sell prints and I can custom matt and frame as well. I have alot to choose from, the eagles, wolves, lighthouses, Leopards as prints, plus I draw anything custom as well. Being that alot of my clients are Christians and Christian churches, I have drawm alot of religious pictures, and murals, and alot of families want thier portriates done too. Thanks for asking. What a blessing.

Hi Michael! Thanks for responding to the forums here and welcome to TheNET!
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you.
I totally agree that the spiritual eyes of people will not be opened apart from God doing it, but we also have a part as well, which is prayer and witnessing as you mentioned.
In addition, our work also involves...
A) Persuading others (2 Cor 5:11 -"Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men.").
B) Calling them to repentance (Acts 20:21 - "I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus")
C) Arguing persuasively (Acts 19:8 - "Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God.")
Therefore, according to God himself as revealed in the Bible, it is 1) completely biblical and right to "want to change another"; 2) to use rational, biblical arguments to do so, and to; 3) attempt to challenge and change others outside your family in the hopes they would turn to Christ and repent. 4) Since there is a biblical precident for doing the above, there is nothing inherently prideful in wanting to do this unless one considers the Apostle Paul prideful.
On another point, and please forgive me if I misunderstand you... Are you saying that you do not believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit? Could you clarify this and what is your understanding of the nature of God in this respect?
You can't really convince them or anyone for that matter without the Spirit opening their eyes. You can pray for that.
Now as far as the other "issues" How did God have a son? Jesus is not the physical son of God. God the Father is Spirit, God the son is Spirit who took on flesh and now has dual nature, God and man, and God the Holy Spirit is spirit.
2) Being made in His image again is not physical image or meant literally, I mean we don't all look alike, so to even take that literally would be to exclude people. We differ in race, gender, abilities, disabilities etc. But we are the only creations who have certain characteristics that God possesses, our ability to think rationally, because God encompasses all intelligence and knowledge, our ability to love, because God is love. To relate to one another, God created us for fellowship, basically, everything that sets us apart from the animal kingdom.
3)As far as God knowing us or foreknowing us, well He is omniscient, He knows my great great (to infinity) grandkids, He can see that far in the future, so it's not a conflict nor does it have to be interpreted as us having pre-existed as spirit babies. It simply says that God is omniscient.
Out of curiosity, do you have a burden for the Mormons?
No, I dont have a burden for them. I love them. This one in particular is a family member. I can tell he is searching for the truth. I can tell he is looking because he is asking questions and I want to be SURE I answer them correctly. Do you have a burden for them?
I appreciate your help. You really helped me understand, so that I could help him understand.
Paige
By having a burden for them, I meant if you feel like you are called to them or if you have a certain affinity for them. If you love them then you have a burden for them, and that's great. We're called to different people. Paul went to the gentiles and Peter went to the Jews (right?) My burden is not for them.
Thanks for your reply, Phabs.
Well, I guess I have a burden for them if you want to put it that way. I believe to speak the truth in love to them. They may not take it as love like so many seem to do, but I do. If I didnt care about them, then I wouldnt care to care. Know what I mean? I am not perfect, that is whay I ask advice and counsel from my fellow believers as I try to help those who are decieved. I dont believe I should share if I dont know what Im talking about. Thanks for your help. I hope I can help you with anything that is troubling you too. Im here for you.

Last year I watched a documentary on a Christian channel. It was called Jesus Christ vs joseph smith which is the book that the mormons like to follow, anyhow it gives a lot of information on what they believe and why it is wrong. It tells you of joseph smith and the book of mormons and how they are all false. I believe you can get it online or I can find the site so you can be informed it is very interesting and it will answer a lot of your questions. The documentary is made from converted mormons into christianity and how they repented of their sins and how they to should repent and turn to christ. When you get into your word you will find all the answers you need and how you can go about talking to these people. Study and pray on it God will help you! God Bless You.
yes god is a spirit ,but god surely can take the form of anthing possibly.even flesh(all knowing ,all seeing if he created so much how do we know he doesnt walk among us or does fo that matter.Im not sure why you would want to convince a mormon anyway.they have thier views and you have yours.Hes probably thinking how can i convince this person that god is flesh and always was!
Corklexus, we as Christians really aren't trying to get into endless debates with Mormans, or any other group that differs from our view, but we are trying to get an understanding of where they are coming from when we are talking to them. As Christians we have a Biblical view in which we want to present to others, because we are convinced that it is the correct view. Go to AllaboutGod.com and you can gain a clearer understanding of why we believe like we do. Please if I can be of help in any way in way your welcome to ask me and if i can't I can derect you to someone.
