I do not wish to appear pedantic or adamant, but I do believe the problem lies with the terminology used in regard to the word "Baptise".
As I said the word "baptised" is an anglicised Greek word, namely "Baptizo" which translated correctly means "Immerse".
Those of us who have been sprinkled upon, should try and tell others that we were immersed when we were babies. In attempting to do this, one would immediately realise that in saying this it would be a false statement.
In fact if one had to say to the priest who was responsible. "When you immersed me". He would immediately correct you by saying "No, I did not immerse you, I simply sprinkled you with water.
We realise then, that when we use the correct terminology, we get to the truth of the matter.
Read again the words of Paul in reference to Baptism: "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Romans 6:3-5
Christ called on us all to be immersed. (Mat 28:19) It is a sign to the world that we have become followers of Christ. It is an act of righteousness as Christ said (Mat 3:15) and can only be accomplished by those who truly believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Acts 8:37.
There is a lot of discussion and opinions about baptism by water, and frankly, I don't know what is "correct".
all this for what?
keep it simple servants. kiss for short
an outward appearance of an inward faith.
change churches and get baptized again and again so.
think pray for understanding the knowledge of will of god.
knowing gods mind is knowing jesus through the holy spirit imerse ones self in the bible.
get the jesus fire all over u.
All this for what? Hmmmm, Strange question coming from a Christian.
Makes it almost sound rebellious.
Sounds like you were never placed under authority, even at home.
The Command to Baptise all Believers comes from our Commander
Jesus Christ Himself. Dare to question it and you will find yourself
marching to your own drumbeat.
"All this!" are the questions, faithful Saints of God are studying, in order
to make sure that they and others here, are walking in the Will of God.
I would encourage you to read all the Posts listed here on Baptism. and trust
that Jesus through the Holy spirit, will then speak to you.
Immersing one self in the Bible, means absolutely nothing unless you are also obedient to the Commands of the Father's Son. Suggest you also immerse yourself in Luke 9:35
"And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him."
Hey,
Children are normally concecrated to God at a time when they are young. Only a grown up adult can be baptized - Baptism is carried out at a certain age when one is able to know between good and bad. And fully immersion in water is way of baptism to show that you have died to sins and you are a new creature .
Be blessed all
fredric
Dear goingmyway,
To answer ur question,in short, I think and this reflects my own opinion, that is :do what the Presbyterian church do ,they baptize the children (like us orthodox, and the catholics) and they do CONFIRMATION of baptism when the baptized person becomes older than 18 years, because although we r several sects (the difference among us is ritual, and not in creed ), still we have the same doctrine, all of us we have the same faith that our eternal salvage comes through the only one prescription ,one way one door,it is through the faith in our god came in body,Jesus Christ all the glory for him, when the question comes to eternity the only way for salvage in all these churches (orthodox, catholics, evangelicaland baptists,Anglicans ) is one way ,Jesus christ, and all of these churches have the same bible and baptize in the name of Jesus christ,so in my opinion if u want to attend a church other than catholic church,no need for a new baptism, only have a confirmation of baptism, this reflects my own opinion, pray with me for the unity of the church of Christ,I always imagine this church as a one tree have the same root but several branches,to each branch come a certain group of birds, have a nice weekend and god bless u,maad
I was also, as a baby. When i got older and actually started to truly have a relationship with God, I got baptized once i became a christian and understood what it meant and knew why i was doing it. It's pretty cool how God works, i went to church on a Weds night which at that time i didn't really go and the night i chose to go they were doing baptism's and i hadn't planed on it or anything and really felt God was telling me to do it and i did. It was a very emotional but great feeling! I don't believe you can be baptized as a baby because you are obviously incapable of understanding what is going on and to except Jesus into your heart, it should be more of a baby blessing then baptism.
Well done Jim,
Your entry here is one of the best concerning Baptism I have read.
One thing... If we have been baptised should we be baptised again? Your answer: "Yes!"
Naturally I am in agreement with that, but to avoid Christians rushing back to their Pastor asking if he in fact used the correct terms, I would add that it would be very unusual for a Christian minister who practice's Baptism by full immersion to not use the Triune names.
Naturally many would know that without rushing off to their Pastor, but there are some new
"Babes in Christ" who just might.
Thank you for this post. It is excellent and to save myself a lot of explaning to others, concerning Baptism.... I have pasted it in my "STUFF TO KEEP" file.
