Porn is one of the highest addictions out there. I think it would be safe to say that it towers over all other addictions put together. I think it's because it's a matter of the thinking & in the mind. The other addictions has to put actions behind those thoughts for example: you think of drinking then you have to physically buy the alcohol to drink it & put that thought into action. The question I want to raise here is more specific. Jesus said that to look with lust is to commit adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:27, 28). Does this mean that a porn addiction can be equated with infidelity? And if it can, do you feel that could be viewed as legitimate grounds for divorce (Matthew 5:32)?

Thank you. This is my goal, and you are reminding me that it is possible through Christ.
I was married too Chip & divorced 5 years later. I ran around on him - a lot. To this day, I so regret how I did that man. I should have waited on Christ & married the man designed for me in the first place but obviously, I had earplugs in at the time. I was doing nothing for Him except going to church & when I got married, I wasn't doing that. That was 20 years ago. Since I married again, he died. I am now married to the man that was meant for me from the start. I still feel a sense of guilt for the first marriage but I know I'm forgiven & my marriage is bathed in the Lord's blessings. Satan can use the Lord's words against us. Walk in your marriage knowing He's blessed your union. Luv u brother. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
I do not struggle with porn i struggle with guilty pleasures, bad thoughts and the constant urges to have sex with myself since i am still single but men adore me and they always tell me that i should not be alone but it was my mother who turned me off from men and bad past experiences ive encountered with them then i learned being with a women was also a sin so i just decided to stay alone for a while
Lashana - Life in Christ is not the easy road nor the path of least resistance, it calls us to die to self, the fleshly desires that end up hurting us, our relationships and also calls us to die to this life. The ways of this life.
Using will power alone to stop sinning and to gain favor before the Lord is not enough to be free from the power of sin or not to go to hell. Only Christ/God can break the chains of sin in our lives and even when He sets us free and we are free indeed, is no easy task to love do to what is right or to remain free. Life in Christ is beautiful though, the best life one can have. God is amazing, He is altogether lovely.
Come
Advertisers have discovered what Satan has long known: sex sells. So many advertisements contain sexual enuendos if not downright porn: even selling a can of soda has to have a sexual feel to it. One of the Devil's great triumphs in modern times is the corruption of what can be most sacred between a man and a woman into what is merely "fun" and casual, and to me worse of all, trivial. (And yes, I recognize the irony of my writing such, since the great loves and relationships of my life have been with mistresses and the great disaster my try at marriage.) As to pornographic images from the standpoint of an artist who does Christian art in the US, I can from experience say trying to make a living as an artist, the top selling "art" would be 1) porn 2) sports related 3) pagan or occult 4) advertising 5) dogs/cats/horses. I suppose any sort of explicit Christian art would be ranked somewhere after "art that matches the living room sofa" and "art produced by animals". But then, doing Christian art has nothing to do with monetary rewards. The internet with all of its potential, immediately became the haven for porn (interesting enough those countries that most forbid porn (such as Pakistan) became the leaders in consumption. Never could figure out the attraction for porn, but I never much was of an onlooker of sports either - I have to be involved. The problem for me with porn besides being just scriptually wrong (as LT pointed out), it gives a very warped (and to me boring) perception of human beauty.
On a side note to illustrate porn is not a modern invention, one of the most popular requested art commissions during the middle ages and renaissance was 2 Samuel 11 (And it came to pass at eventide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house; and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon). Rarely was David even shown or just as a minor background figure, the major focus was on the nude Bathsheba, often with her nude maids. Although the entire story is about the consequences of lust and adultery, the paintings dealt only with the nude females themselves, which were allowed since "it was biblical art". This genre of art was so popular, it has earned the title of "Bathsheba at Her Bath" as a category equal to "The Last Supper" or "The Crucifixion" in art history.
Oh no! I'm peanut butter! I just ate a spoonful of it. Drats. LOL
I think Jesus states it strongly to make the point, which seems to be that the legalistic Pharisees thought they were absolutely the last word in righteousness because they kept the externals of the Law. Jesus moved all issues to the heart!
Naturally, if I have lustful thoughts about a scantily clad female... maybe when I wasn't even looking for that kind of thing... then that's a sin I need to deal with. Which is what I must do, NOT carry out the evil thoughts with action.
Porn is simply a sin of the eyes. It's called a LUST--a lust of the Eyes. Here it is: 1 John 2:16 [Full Chapter]
