If anybody here wants to know the REAL TRUTH about the NIV (the most popular Bible of the day) ,  it's just a few seconds away....  Pl do a Google search for this:  What's wrong with the NIV.   As for me and my house, we will never go to the NIV for REAL BIBLE truths.  (Pl. read Rev.  22:19 to see the repercussions of adding or taking away from the Word of God.  In the OT Pl look up Deaut 4:2 or 12:32.  I study only from the KJV,  not even the NKJV.   The KJV is the closest to the original Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic.  Btw, no translation from one language to another is 100% accurate.  Why?  Because of the way some languages use words.  For example:  the word love by itself in the English language means one thing, but in Eastern languages they have separate SINGLE words for love.  Even in Greek it's the same.  So, please do not expect 100% accuracy in the KJV in every word.

This is what caused me to question these differences. I had started listening to the KJV more and just some things sounded different than I thought I'd read before and I would go pull up the NIV and compare it. And a friend emails devotionals daily and she uses all types of versions and something was just bothering me about it. So I did Google the differences and then looked at explanations about the differences and at times it seemed to be stretching to show why the difference was acceptable.

But yes even KJV translation isn't completely perfect so I often use the interlinear translations to see the actual word by word. And Biblegateway's Mounce offers definitions of each word and explains how that particular word was used elsewhere in Scripture to denote the difference in how the ancient language had different meanings like your example on love.

I just figure there's a reason I was questioning the variationsso I'm going to stay with KJV but I'll be comparing.

Stating that the child will be born to a young woman is preposterous when the truth is the young woman was a VIRGIN young woman.    Of course in those day it was young women that were given in marriage.  What the pervertors want to do is to WATER DOWN the Gospel of Good News of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ !  Of course this idea of watering down came from the "god of this world,"  as taught in 2nd Cor. 4:4.

In light of this conversation I think I have a real problem. In my over 20 years of ministry I have shared the gospel predominately using the NIV (1984). If the NIV is such a horrible book then all those people who gave their heart to Jesus and received Him as Savior are in jeopardy ... How could they possibly be saved if the NIV is so wrong? Then there are those who have seen their life changed and started walking in the newness of life, too bad they are following a book that is so far off course, thus they must be off course too and headed to hell ... Of course I have just employed a bit (large bit) of sarcasm. 

The whole premise that the KJV is the only version is just ridiculous! Good version, yes. Best version, debatable. Only version, no!

If Almighty, All-knowing God can make a donkey talk and put sense into prophet Balaam's thick skull, then God is able to use anything to save His PREVIOUSLY CHOSEN men, women and children and usher them into heaven.  The bottom line is this:  None that the Father gave to the Son will ever be lost.

Btw, just as one can do a Google search for the NIV,  one can do the same for all Bibles.  Just type in thse words:  What's wrong with the __________?   This search includes the KJV as well.

The Creator God of Moses, and Jesus and all GENUINELY Born Again believers knows everything there is to know in this universe and also beyond.  He would never have left mankind, the ZENITH of His creation to grope in the dark like a blind man looking for a door to get out of a room.  So...He WROTE His words in scrolls. Then when the time was right, He got His words written in English in the KJV Bible, for the English speaking peoples of the world.  Today, there is hardly any human being who does not have ACCESS to a KJV Bible.  If they are illiterate, then they have people among thier family and friends who can easily have access to a KJV Bible.  Even phones, ubiquitous as they are have easy access to a KJV Bible.  In all of history, right now in these days of APOSTASY in christondom,  the Good Lord "saw to it" that the KJV is available to anybody who wants it.  Mysterious are the ways of Almighty God! Isa. 55:8 &9

Ananda, for serious research, instead of googling negative questions about what's wrong with the bible, narrow down your searches to links such as this one and discover what's right and good about the revelation which God has given us and has preserved through the ages so that we today may hear the gospel of Christ http://www.bible-researcher.com/index.html

Many have given their lives in order for us to have the canon of the 66 books today regardless of which version/ translation of it that we hold in our hand at this very moment.

Have researched all of this intensely numerous times and find the whole argument that the KJV is the only valid version to be ridiculous.

I think christian folks get a bit nervous when they find out that the newer bibles seem to remove certain parts or all of the verses. I read somewhere that these 'removed' verses may be found in the footnotes though. I also read that that too is questioned as to why remove them as if only some bibles think they belong <---- something like that.  I am one that trust the older KJV more so than the newer versions. It may be a ridiculous decision but still I like the KJV better. I think too its because the bible says that you shouldnt take away or add too. That makes me think it can happen. I have had Jehov Witnesses tell me that the KJV has added and taken away . They told me that verses removed from their bible was because it wasnt biblical anyway. I think one verse being " get thee behind me satan" I think that is what she said. The missing verses was brought up by me to them. Its because I noticed when she would read the verses and I would be following with me looking at my bible and seen she didnt read it. Being worried about these things and preferring the KJV  because of that worry isnt being IMO ridiculous. Sometimes if someone reads or hears the same story over and over and over again for years. And then someone else comes up and tells the story but leaves out important parst here and there, the person who knows the story by heart may know they left parts out but are still comfortable enough with the persons version of his way of telling the story because they already know the story by heart. But others who come up to listen and never had heard that story before  may not realize things have been taken away, I know that doesnt make since. But Im trying. :-)

Never denied the KJV is a good version, but to exalt it and attempt to slam the other version, as some regularly do, is a mistake. The doctrine taught in the KJV, NIV and NASB are the same. The reason it is ridiculous to hold that the KJV is THE ONLY (as some do) VERSION is because that attempts to state two things (among others). 1) The KJV is the inspired Word, thus implying without error. This is not true. It is a translation using the many manuscripts that are from the originals that are the inspired Word of God. 2) It assumes that the translators in 1611 we better skilled at translating than those who translate today. I think they are no better or worse, but again what is often stated or implied is that the translators were inspired to translate the KJV. That is debatable depending on how one defines inspired. It would also imply that the translators today cannot be equally inspired as if in 1611 God only worked the one time to bring forth His Word into the English language (and BTW the KJV is not the first English language Bible, it became popular because it was authorized by the king at that time).

You refer to the parts missing in the NIV. I could make the argument (but only do so here to make a point) that the opposite is true. The NIV is translated from older manuscripts that are dated closer to the time of Christ. If we assume that older is better (i.e. 1611 KJV verse 1984 NIV) then we must also assume that the older manuscripts are better. If that is the case then we find that instead of the NIV removing words the KJV has added words, which is breaking the very claim many accuse the NIV of ... that we shall not add or take away. 

For clarity, what I find as ridiculous is not one trusting and using the the KJV, but rather a dogmatic approach that calls it the only true version and claims all others are evil.
