healing
many people wander why some are healed and some arent what about a christian with cancer who hasnt been healed whats your view

Hi Sheila,
Sometimes it's so hard to find the words to encourage like we want to, to comfort and reassure like we know God's word does, and to show that we truly care because we are not face to face. It's hard to put into words the compassion and confusion we feel over reading such a simple question as yours posted above.
We've all been through difficulties. Jesus promises us we will. In John 16 Jesus says 33“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Just before that in chapter 15 He's talking about how He is the vine and we are the branches, and He wants us to bear fruit. We need to abide in Him to bear the fruit. It doesn't say anything about perfect health or riches to abide in Him....we're just told to abide in Him so that we may bear fruit. Later on in that chapter we're told to love one another, and we're to lay our lives down for one another and bearing fruit (godly attitudes Gal 5:22,23; phil 1:11; praise (Hebrews 13:15) and leading others to Christ (Romans 1:13-16).
Then, He talks about our relationship with the world....how the world will hate us because it hated Him first (I know that's not what you're asking about....but stay with me) and chapter 15 ends beautifully with the promise of The Holy Spirit.
Chapter 16 begins with ...."These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling"
The theme is persecution.
When I read this I see something else in regard to our trials.
We know that we're still in a fallen world with fallen 'everything' and everything we know is affected by that.
I wonder how our testimony affects the world when they witness the peace that believers have during struggles such as cancer, or heart problems, or death of a child, or persecution. I'm not suggesting that God allows cancer so that our testimony of His peace witnessed by the world will cause their conversion.... But I am saying that we can rest assured that HE is with us through it all. He promises it. I believe Jesus heals, and when He heals we know it. But just as when He walked this earth HE didn't heal everybody, He doesn't heal everybody today. Many of the healings Jesus did while He was on earth were for the purpose of proving His deity. There is only One Messiah, and He is Him.
I am dismayed at some of the teachings going around in the church that teach a person that if they are not healed, then they must not have enough faith. That's a very discouraging thing to tell someone.
Personally, Jesus has healed me from certain things, but other things He did not. But I believe with all my heart that He allowed certain circumstances for doctors to heal me, and in those circumstances I honored Him by sharing the gospel.
6 1/2 years ago I had open heart surgery because of a congenital heart defect. While I was in the hospital recovering I had the opportunity to talk to nurses and patients about Jesus. One nurse I spoke with had been raised in an orthodox belief, and she was at a crossroads in her life....deciding if Christianity was truly for her. I had the privledge to talk to her about Jesus, and about His Love, Mercy and Grace, and how it's not about our 'works' or us being baptised or earning our salvation...but it's about us receiving Him as HE sacrificed on our behalf so that we could be reconciled to The Father. She had never really heard or understood why Jesus had to die. While I was going through that I had many opportunities to tell people about Jesus, and I took the opportunities. So--what they saw was a young mother and wife who was going through a difficult time, and had every reasonable right to be depressed and rattled with anxiety and stress, but instead was filled with peace, hope and joy.
I had skin cancer a few years ago, but I am grateful that I listened to the promptings of The Holy Spirit to go get it checked out and cut out---stage '0'...no threat, but yearly check-ups are needed.
I have other stories too...perhaps for another time.
Jesus heals, but not in the ways that we want because we want a physical healing, and we're kind of always desiring our best life now. We're not promised that though. We're promised peace, hope and joy when we abide in Him, trust in Him, rest in Him, pray to Him and walk in obedience to Him.
A physical healing may be nice, but it's shallow compared to the peace, hope and joy He gives while we're going through all that we go through. If we get that physical healing, I think we're kind of prone to forget about God and go our way...we may glance back and utter a quick 'Thank-you', but we are quick to forget how much we need Him.

The explanation is often given that illness is a consequence of Adam's sin, and that God will help us cope with the difficulties and the suffering that accompanies illness. Would illness ever be discipline that is corrective in nature? Was Paul's thorn disciplinary action? Some like Hezekiah are healed while other's aren't. Sometimes people who don't even smoke get lung cancer and sometimes people who do smoke don't get cancer or even COPD.
But there's no denying that OT attributes tragedy to God. In 1 Cor 5:1-5, God hands the sinful man over to Satan. God didn't do the destroying, but it was a judgment against the man. I suppose we could question whether or not the man was a child of God. I think he was and that's why he was handed over to Satan, or God would have destroyed the man's flesh Himself.

Hello Sheila, If you want my view on this, it is somewhat different than a lot of people, here and elsewhere. But I can give it to you, and you can ponder it, and try proving it with the Word of God.
When I read the Word and see scriptures saying things like, “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” Acts 2:21, Rom.10:13, I take that as being promised to whosoever, leaving no one out. However we know that everyone is not going to call upon the name of the Lord, just those that believe.
Notice Ro.10:9, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Or we might say, or acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as our only Savior. and believe in our heart that Jesus who died for our offenses has been raised again for our justification; “Ro.4:25” and depend solely on him for our justification, we shall be saved. Now if we look at the word “saved” in the Strong’s Concordance, we find it to be “SOZO” meaning, heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be, or make whole.
So I see healing as a provision that God has offered, or made available to all that call upon the name of the Lord.
Now where I see one of our short comings is, referenced in Mat.17, concerning the epileptic; (copied for accuracy ) Matthew 17:14-21 (KJV)
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.Some believe that He is saying this kind of “demon”, but if you look at the 20th verse, He is talking about “their unbelief”, The reason Jesus could just rebuke the demon and he came out is, Jesus had no unbelief. See it wasn’t a matter of faith, the disciples had faith, but they had too much unbelief, their unbelief lends itself to a wavering faith, and we know with a wavering faith, we can’t expect to receive anything of the Lord. Ja.1:7. It only takes faith as a grain of mustard seed.
We all have faith, it was given to us at the new birth, it is a fruit of the Spirit. we just have too much unbelief, which negates our faith.

I disagree with the teaching that miraculous gifts have ceased. There are several arguments making the case for the cessation of sign gifts and there is considerable controversy about it. I believe the truth is that all the gifts are available and none have been withdrawn. For starters, the purpose of the sign gifts to confirm the Word wasn't the only purpose for them. The miracles were more than just signs, e.g. the raising of Dorcas in Acts 9 was likely to restore the person to the community for God had further use of Dorcas and you can call it speculation but I'm sure after being raised, Dorcas was that much more committed to God's service. Also, more people than the apostles did signs and wonders, such as Stephen, Acts 6:8. The bible never says that some of the spiritual gifts were only temporary. In fact, all the gifts are listed together.
