All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I have searched and found discussions on women leaders in the church and it seems people take whatever position they do and will stick to it. Each side refusing to see how the other can think opposite and each using scripture to prove their belief.

My question is...

If women are not to lead in church who will? Look around the congregation. How many wives sit alone with unsaved husbands at home?

My pastor pointed this out once. Said marriage and society both suffer because of weak men who don't teach Godliness in their homes.

There is precedence in Scripture that where men fail to lead that women have stepped up. Thus this leads to three questions I will pose:

1) What is a leader and what is a position of leadership in the church (i.e. Pastor, elder, Speaker, Sunday School teacher, etc)

2) Is woman leading recognized in Scripture as the norm factoring out extenuating circumstances?

3) If it is not the norm, then what exactly qualifies as extenuating circumstances?

To me, a leader is one over someone. I don't even see the pastor as THE leader (complete in leadership and above all). He is under the authority of the main church and voted in or out by preference of the congregation. The pastor is considered the leader of that particular congregation however with elders who help with counsel with him. Being the leader, should he choose a woman to give counsel is he wrong? She for accepting it? I don't see Jesus commanding this. And therefore you see my view of it.

I don't know what would be considered the norm. In scripture men were stronger leaders in the home and church and yet there were still some women that are called disciples, deacons and judges.
I suppose this is part of this question. In biblical times men were stronger leaders and the cultural norm was that they lead. But what of the absence of this in current culture? And also WHY don't more men seek Godly counsel in church and their home? Why have they ceased to lead by example?

Great questions and a real concern. The only answer that I can provide is the result of sin in man and the effect of society upon man. Many have, and are, growing up in a faithless home. The last several generations overall have been exposed less and less to the truth of God's Word.

Sorry need to get ready for church but one other thought. Many men in my own church call out their jobs as a reason for missing so many services. Yet I'm a full time employed single mother and not so young as to keep up with everything and I still manage church consistently. I want my son trained up in the way he should go. More men today should think the same rather than think they have to work late and are too tired for church. Why not sleep after the service?

Well, the way I see it is just because the men don't do their part doesn't open the doors for us to go against what we're told to do. I think if it wasn't for women for so many years, most churches wouldn't be standing today. I still never seen them overstep their bounds but they did most of everything. The last few churches I've been to, we have as many men as we do women which I think is a great thing.

There is a difference in the way men and women are wired ( I know that is a profound revelation ... hahaha) and a difference in what society feeds them (i.e. expectations) which often lead people today, especially men, to believe that Christianity is for the weak.

Because men think crying is a weakness and we're told to cry out to God. Even Jesus wept.

A difference in wiring? Is that like saying women are from Venus and men are from Mars? LOL

Appropriate timing but Jeff and I had our usual class debate this morning and it was on the topic of getting thrown from the garden. It went something like:

Me: Well if Adam hadn't gotten us all thrown out of the garden!

Jeff: But it was Eve who allowed satan to tempt her.

Me: And he was the man who should have had control over his household. But she took of the tree and also gave to Adam "who was with her"...so he stood there doing nothing while satan tempted her.

No one ever wins our debates but the class is entertained. LOL

:-)

I think I replied to something not too long ago saying Adam was a wimp & didn't live by As for me & my house, we will serve the Lord. lol

My version has always been that God looked upon man, said: I KNOW I can do better. Then He created woman.

Either that or He realized man needed a brain. :-o

Yes I did just go there. LOL

Feathers getting ruffled ... just saying ... hahaha
