Hi,
I've been reading lots about Christians of times past who have been mightily used by God, overcoming enormous challenges and doing amazing things with great faith. Some examples are Taylor Hudson, Corrie Ten Boom etc.
When I read about them I'm struck by how much their faith overcame.
When I compare them with myself, I'm sad and frustrated because I still struggle with acting out in anger on an almost daily basis.
Galatians 5 says, "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." (verses 16 and 17)
I don't want to be struggling with fulfilling the "lust of the flesh" for many years. But I know some people do. So my question is, why do some people seem to get victory over this so quickly (like Taylor Hudson and Corrie Ten Boom) so that they are able to be used by God in great ways, while others struggle with temper for many years with little victory?
Thanks,
Jenny

Hi Jenny,
Would you subscribe to the statement - All humans are different (like snowflakes).......that we are carrying different types and amounts of "stuff" in our lives......that we allow the Holy Spirit to produce more, or less of the nine fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) in our lives..........depending on one's walk through the small gate on the narrow path (Matthew 7:13-14).........?
Okay, if we're all different, there are bound to be different levels of progress in the area of sanctification. And remember - as long as we are in the flesh, sanctification is a life-long pursuit. But the Holy Spirit will help us, if we allow Him.
Think of entering a pastry bake-off......with big prizes to the winners. Let's say that you don't win any places, but you really admire the winners......and wonder how they could come up with such masterpieces.
You don't envy or dislike the winners, or compare yourself to them..........BUT!...you can learn from them. First thing to learn might be.....oh I don't know.......not getting angry when something doesn't taste like you think it should. That would be a giant step in one's baking......or one's life for that matter.
Let's see, in the nine fruit.......self-control, patience, peace(which passes all understanding), maybe a couple pinches of love........these would all be necessary ingredients in creating winning recipes in one's baking.....or one's life for that matter.
Jenny, please let us know as you win future bake-offs.
Grace and Peace.
Wow that really made sense about the bake sale thing. Thanks for putting it so simply, I think in the future I might ask people to relate all answers to me in the bake sale analogy ;)
God bless and thank you for your help
Jenny, He is the potter & we're His clay. Not one work of His clay is the same. We all have different fingerprints. We're all unique. You have overcome more then you give Him credit for. He has won the victory through you just through His salvation alone. Don't be too hard on yourself. We each have unique battles. I'm sure there are things in your life that Taylor Hudson couldn't handle or handle it as victoriously as you have. So, sis, just give Him praise for who He is & all He does through you. You are fearfully & wonderfully made.
