All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift

When I backslid I said some ugly things to a lot of my  christian co-workers. I cant remember all the ugly I said or did but  I do remember I did.  I don't ever see these people again nor do I have contact with the most of them. How can someone return to the alter if they don't go and make things right?

Janie,

There are several parts to this. First you have to ask if these people "have ought against thee." It is highly unlikely that any of them are sitting there remembering what you said and are holding it against you. I would hope they would have turned it over to God a long time ago. Secondly, if you feel led to and have the availability to go and apologize to these people that is a good thing, but I put the emphasis on "feel led." thirdly, which is the most important, have you laid this before God and asked for forgiveness from Him? Have you owned up to your error and asked Him to forgive you? If you have, then He has forgiven you and anything related to this incident that would have potentially hindered your relationship with Him has been removed, washed away.

Lord Bless,

LT

Thank you

LT: Most excellent word, Bro.

We've all done things in our past.  Some of the people we did them to are gone even from this earth, making it impossible to reconcile "with" them.  I think that's why the verse says be reconciled TO they brother.  When you ask God to forgive you for what you did, HE reconciles you.

Some say it's a good exercise to put an empty chair in front of you and pretend the person you need to forgive or ask forgiveness of is sitting there and speak to them as if they were in that chair.
