All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

In reading "How important is context and what is context anyway?", there was some side discussion on water baptism.  Roy mentioned that it is out of context to believe one had to be baptized to be saved.  And there are verses saying that we have to believe and repent to be saved.  But when someone asked about what the Bible says of baptism, I did some research and there are some scriptures that I wonder about.  Can anyone shed some light on these?

1 Peter 3:21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also

Mark 16:16: Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved (but the second part states only...) but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Water is Gods Holy Spirit -- Remember Jesus at the cross was thirsty .... only Jesus Christ can offer us the water of life

Jesus, who offers us not simply something that will quench our thirst today, but the hidden spiritual depths of  living water

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:3-8
