All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

What comes to mind when you read that title XXXChurch? Well do you think of something good or bad? Let me tell you what it means to the people who run it. " In 2002, we showed up at a porn show. Not outside with signs and megaphones. We showed up inside because we care. Ten years later, we are still showing up in your world because we still care about you" - Unknown XXXChurch is a ministry to help those who both look at it and work in the industry. They have helped many woman get out of the industry and with God's help become born-again Christians and never look back. They go into the events industry events where people from the industry walk around talking and walking and giving out prizes and dressed not so nice and the people from XXXChurch so love, grace, and mercy to the people in the conventions and just want to be there friends. They just want to show them the love of Christ. They even go so far as to hand out bibles that say on the covers "Jesus Loves Porn Stars." Also they will pray with people if they want prayer. So what do you think of this? The people who run this say that they do this because they feel that they are going into places that Jesus would go.

God does say these things. No one doubts that...... These verses you post are good reminders we should love all.  I think the people here sharing their views do love the liars ect. Some wants to love them in the mix of them sinning and others wants to love them from their prayer closets.

My comment seems to have been bumped down.  I was replying to Grace to you's comment pasted below:

Does Jesus love Porn Stars?  And to place this on a Bible???  Perhaps this is better psychology than God has in His Scriptures to draw people?

Is that truly what the Bible declares?  What is the love of Christ?  Attending such events and conventions?

Or that Jesus loves Strippers, sinners, drunkards, idolatry, sexual perversion, liars, thieves, etc.?  Is this what the Bible says?  Mine doesn't.

This again is not about making friends with the unrepentent, this is about giving the Gospel, all of it.  Repent and believe the Gospel, that's what Jesus preached, John preached, and it is what all the apostles preached.  Why do we need to do things differently?

You get use to being bumped all over the place Adam when a lot of people start responding.

The premise is wrong. You cannot segregate God by adjusting His attributes. Love is not an action, but a state of being that dictates His action. While this is true we know that God is Holy and His holiness is a state of being that dictates His actions. God is just. Again, this is a state of being that dictates His actions. These are but three of His attributes and all three coexists and work in harmony all of the time, because it is not simply what God does, it describes who He is.

The second problem is that there is an assumption that love and hate cannot coexist. That simply is not true. God is able to experience love for someone and at the same time have a hatred.

I agree that God hates the things that we do when they do not bring Him glory.  But I was answering your question that you asked from before:

Does God love porn stars, thieves, liars, strippers, etc?

Yes, he does.  Just as He loves you and me.

And this is biblical, as I mentioned above.  I didn't say God doesn't get angry with us or hate what we do.

will He save those who are unrepentant porn stars, thieves, liars, drunkards, sexualy preverse, murderers, etc.?

Yes, if they repent.

To us it may not seem right or fair.  But let's say a man breaks into the home of a good family woman, mother of young children, always helping in her community, yet she had not accepted Christ.  Say he rapes and murders her.  Then he is caught and sentenced to life in prison.  While in prison, he accepts Christ, changes his ways and ministers to the inmates for the rest of his life.  Is it fair that he goes to heaven and the mother goes to hell?

I understand what you're saying, but God loves us all.  Even if He came today to judge us, He still loves all of us because that is His nature.  Yes, of course He is also just and will condemn those who deserve it.  God still loves those that He punishes.  Revelation 3:19 "Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent."  If He sends someone to Hell, I dont think that it means that God does not love them.  But He is fair, and will punish out of love, just like a good father.  But yes, he does despise sin and the acts that we commit.  But I believe love is still there.

Also, who said that the people who go to porn conventions to preach and share the Gospel don't inform the people of their sin?  Did you read their evangelistic methods somewhere?  I'm just trying to figure out where that came from.  Just because they use love to catch attention, doesn't mean that they don't share the rest of the Gospel as well, which includes our dependency on God and that we would be damned without Him and His Son.  I think its a way to start conversation, and not really their only view of the Gospel in my opinion.

I think sharing our hopelessness without God and our sinful lives to nonbelievers is cruicial, and is something that I use as well.  It is important to tell them that God loves them, but as you said, it is vital that we inform them of our sinful nature, which God hates.

I think we agree on a lot of things.  I completely agree with your second paragraph.

And also the ending:

"So you tell me, does God love the porn stars, thieves, liars, strippers, etc.?  Yes, He loves them based on His perfect love, giving us who deserve nothing but His wrath a chance to follow Him.

And this is Biblical.  God does get angry & He hates what we do..."

And don't worry, I am learning too, just like most people here :)

Grace,

I understand where you are coming from quite well. It is about the methods and we all must accept that there are parameters that must be in place. The question that causes the stir is "what are those parameters." I fully reject putting the wording on the Bible described above as well as the words put on the T-shirt described. I don't reject that God can call, prepare and then send a select group of people into such an environment to share the gospel and that they can do it without getting stained in the process. Is this for everyone ... absolutely not, but does that mean it is for no one? I cannot limit God that way when I see nothing in Scripture to prohibit the action.

Grace,

God probably hates sinners as much as God hates sin.

Does hate mean absence of love? God is love and cannot help but act toward all in love even when He judges righteously He acts in accordance with His love. We cannot segregate His attributes. That are not just the things He does, they represent who he is.

I wasn't through with the comment and I was going to add this:

Proverbs 6:16-19

King James Version (KJV)

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

This seems to include certain people as well as their sins. But hating sinners doesn't mean God doesn't also love sinners. One thing we can't say is that God is apathetic or doesn't care.
