All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Whenever my parents would hear someone swear they would say "that person needs the Lord"  I grew believing that if a swear word came out of someone's mouth they were not saved!  I was taught not to even use slang.  Is this an appropriate way to measure if someone is saved or not?

Is anything an appropriate measure of whether someone is saved? We all have weak moments, doesn't mean we are not saved.

Being measured for swearing..if that someone is saved or not... I think only God can decide on the depth of the swearing.

I guess some people say swearing words out off habit and in my opinion, in time they should realize it's better not to exclaim using swearing words... If the person uses it purposely or angrily they are considered heartless and unemotional.

We are not perfect...sometimes..I too exclaim..certain words and realise that it is not ethical to say the words. Of Course I am trying and  relying on God's word  to change me...

Sometimes people will even attach the word “damn” after it and this God hates.  This is clearly sin.  Jesus said in Matthew 12:36 “that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”

It is not easy to be like our saviour...humble, tolerant and soft spoken.  But our God wants us to be like his son and we should try to watch our every step to be like him.  God wants to save everyone...I am sure he knows when not to save someone.

James 1:26 “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.”

The next time you feel anger boiling up inside of you and you feel you are about to say something out loud like an  angry word, or something you might regret, hide this verse in your heart:

Colossians 4:6 “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

ONLY GOD CAN MEASURE US IF WE ARE WORTHY ENOUGH TO BE SAVED.

Was Peter saved?

Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crowed. Matthew 26:74

The Holy Spirit is NOT salvation.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a completely different entity.  Salvation is...believe in Christ and that he was the son of God and raised from the dead...asking Christ to come into your life.  Then Christ will send you another helper (Holy Spirit).  There is all sorts of discussion on whether it is at salvation or later, or grows as a seed, etc.  But if your parents believe a person is changed overnight upon salvation, then no one on this earth is going to heaven.  We're all doomed to hell.

Well...I believe you do as well.  However, in reading ALL of scripture, I also believe you get the Holy Spirit as a seed that must be watered (renewed) and grows (from glory to glory).  Even Paul spoke of His struggle with sin.  And I KNOW He was saved.  ;-)
