The armor of God

Ok, in Ephesians chapter 6 it talks about the armor of God.

I understand about the prayer and the Sword of the Spirit [the scriptures]. I don't understand the rest of it though. I know it's symbolic with the belt and shield and stuff. I'm lost though because it's too hard to understand the symbolism.

What do those symbols represent?

Praise Jesus! He helped me to atleast write down the different parts of the armor of God.

prayer,Sword of the Spirit,truth,righteousness,gospel,faith,salvation

Not sure of the order they're suppose to go in. I still am having a hard time when it comes to figurin out the figurative language. For ex. we're suppose to put on the breastplate of righteousness. How do we "put on" righteousness?

And we're suppose to put on the helmet of salvation. How do we put on something we already have? I've heard people say put it on daily. How can we put in on if it's always applied to us [since we're always saved by Christ]?
