Hey all,
I have been dating my current girlfriend for almost 1.5 years. While for a large part of this time our relationship was filled with love, understanding, and trust, there has been trouble within the relationship that has led to a lot of distance and lack of affection from my significant other. I have begged and pleaded for God to change the face of our relationship, to restore the love and respect we once had for each other, and to bring affection and unity back into our relationship. Yet for so long I have endured this feeling of loneliness and hopelessness. I have prayed for answers, and for Him to lead me in the right direction, and perhaps it is my own issues with my faith lately that have led me so far from the answers I'm seekin. Please pray for me and my girlfriend to find our ways back to each other, and for God to bring us back to full faith in him together and as individuals, to put him above all else, and more than anything to forgive one another as He forgives us. I greatly appreciate all the prayers and wish the best to all of you

I truly believe that dating must be with a purpose. That purpose being Marriage. When two people do not begin their dating relationship with this purpose and this purpose only then it will end up exactly the way you have just described it. It will run its course and then eventually die.
The true and only purpose that GOD will honor a dating relationship is if that purpose is for marriage. That it. If people are dating just to kiss and hold hands and are not in it because they are seriously looking for a life long partner but just want company to the movies then GOD is not in it. If two people start dating and they begin this courtship with the understanding that their goal is to find out if marriage is possible then GOD will bless them both and they can both begin to know each other (Non-Sexually) to make that determination. Also 1.5 years is about the maximum length of time needed to know if this person is someone I want to marry or not. If an adult cannot determine if they want to marry the person they are dating within a year of dating that person then they were not interested in marriage but other things. If the dating relationship extends further than this then either one or both are not in it for marriage. The relationship will have ran its course and everything after that begins to become as described above. Those that date must be of mature and responsible age. No male should be dating if he does not have a job and not interested in or capable of marriage. No woman should be dating if she is not interested in or capable of marriage.
Preston did you put that title up?
Hopelessness! - Preston you are not hopeless, stop it!
Need for GOD in a relationship! - Preston you got your answer on how to put GOD back in that relationship. Put a purpose in it ( marriage) and GOD will be there. If you or her do not want marriage then there is no relationship and move on.
Thank all of you for your responses! I appreciate the great advice. After having a long, emotional talk last night, she expressed her need to grow closer to God as an individual before she could ever find happiness in a relationship. She believes that the difficulty of assuming this relationship, and one that carries so much guilt from struggling consistently with premarital sex. Due to the fact that I have been praying persistently to Him for wisdom as to how to handle the situation, what role to assume in her life, I believe he answered my question very boldly. I decided that, of course, God can give her the love and happiness that no relationship ever could, and I want her to have that more than anything. Part of loving somebody, I believe, is realizing when your partner is struggling, asking God for help, and allowing Him to respond and following his will, even if that means the end of the relationship. God is good, he will continue to work in both of our lives, and there is no regret I carry for any part of this relationship. God is working, and He is perfect. Please pray for God to work in our lives as individuals, and if there is a new chapter between the two of us that can result from this as well, to let it manifest itself on God's perfect timetable.
