I just read the post that you listed concerning "God hating the sin but not hte sinner". I cannot say that I agree with Finney in his comments. Although I don't totally disagree either. My problem with the comment is whar Paul says in Romans 5:6-8

"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ DIED FOR THE UNGODLY.(capitals mine)

"For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet perhaps for a good man some would even dare to die.

But God commended His love towards us, in that, WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS (CAPITALS MINE) , Christ died for us."

I believe that God loves the 'sinner' but His justice will not allow Him to pardon the unrepentant. Ezekiel tells us He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked , rather that they repent and live.  He loves us, but if we don't return the love He must punish.

Just my thoughts anyhow. God bless

Hi Charles,

I always love reading your responses... you bring such a beautiful Christianity maturity to these discussions, and you are always so gracious and humble.

I came across this article from www.gotquestions.org which gives another view to 'hate the sin, love the sinner'.  I just worry about that teaching because it's not until we're covered with the righteousness of Christ that God looks at us and sees Jesus...prior to that, we're just simply separated from Him because of our sin.. Thank God for Jesus.  Anyway...here's the article.

Question: "Does God hate? If God is love, how can He hate?"
Answer:
It seems a contradiction that a God who is love can also hate. We are created with the capacity to both love and hate; it is part of our being created in the image of God. The fact that we are all tainted with sin does not negate the fact that the ability to love and hate is part of the image of God that was created within us all. Therefore, if it is no contradiction for a human being to be able to love and hate, then much more so would it not be a contradiction for God to be able to love and hate.
When the Bible does speak of God hating, the object of God’s hatred is usually sin and wickedness. Among the things God hates are idolatry (Deuteronomy 12:31; 16:22) and those who do evil (Psalm 5:4-6; 11:5). Proverbs 6:16-19 outlines seven things the Lord hates: pride, lying, murder, evil plots, those who love evil, false witness, and troublemakers. Notice that this passage does not include just things that God hates; it includes people as well.
The question that begs to be answered at this point is why does God hate these things? God hates them because they are contrary to His nature—God’s nature being holy, pure and righteous. In fact, David writes, “For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you” (Psalm 5:4 emphasis added). God is holy and hates sin. If He did not hate sin, He would not be holy. God is love, but He is also wrath, justice, and vengeance. But His wrath is a holy wrath and His justice and vengeance are holy as well. God’s love is holy. Therefore, He cannot "love everyone all the time no matter what they do," as some like to claim. Nothing could be further from the truth. God loves righteousness and holiness and hates sin and evil. If He did not, He would not be God.
So if God hates sin and loves holiness, how does He love us? Simple. He loves us because we have the righteousness of Christ who became sin for us on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). He poured out His wrath and vengeance against sin on His Son, so that He could pour out His mercy and love on us. But without that sacrifice credited to us, His wrath and hatred remain on us because He hates our sin. The Bible never says He "hates the sin, but loves the sinner." In fact, He is “angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm 7:11). Is there a sense in which God loves everyone? Yes. Does that love preclude God from also hating sin, wickedness, and evil? No.

Thank you for your kind comments. I guess the point that I was trying to make is that God's emphasis is on hating the actions of the people rather than the people themselves. People are often made to feel( in my opinion) that once they are in certain sins that they are trapped because God hates them and won't change His mind and because they are wrong now they will always be wrong.

While we know that God is not willing that any should perish but all would come to repentance , this part ofthe gospel is not emphasized enough. Kind of like the mentality that some get when they say that the church would collapse around them if someone as evil as them came in.  What I mean by that is their is not enough emphasis on God's love and desire to restore 'whosoever will come'.

Judgement cannot and should not ever be downplayed but it can be overemphasized at the cost of overshadowing mercy and grace.

I hope that made sense ( as much as I ever do anyhow).

God bless you , my sister

These are good observations. I also wonder about the repercussions of having this law pass ... the ramifications. The divorce rate in America will likely increase exponentially due to the dissolution of many of these marriages. Court dockets will be packed in family court, domestic court, and judges won't be happy about it and other governmental offices will experience a heavy increase in work load and cases as well, such as the offices that determine child support and other areas regarding family law because many of these couples do involve children. I pray that God in His mercy and kindness will grant people the gift of faith and hearts will change and many will wake up.

I need to get my daughter in court for her divorce before it gets too busy. She caught her husband running around on her. She gave him a 2nd chance & again, he did it.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Tammy. You and she will be in my thoughts and prayers. I was just rambling here about possible repercussions of non-traditional marriages. I'm sure they will face the same challenges as those in traditional marriages.

Thanks for the prayers. She moved with me here in Texas & met a young man. He literally chased her down wanting her phone number. He's a pretty great guy tho not sure about his salvation. A matter of fact, I'm beginning to question my daughter's but I know in time, they will come around.

I hope so.

Amen Michelle

Hi Group, sorry for the long post, Tammy.

No doubt.....more and more conservative folks, pastors, denominations, senators, Bible believers, etc. are swinging =

to the "live and let live" mind set.......if that's what people want to do, let them do it.....it's their life, and if that's what they want.... this is a free country........ad nausea.

And the loudest reason that I hear for license of homosexuality, and all associated relationships is - LOVE THY NEIGHBOR! THAT'S WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS, DOESN'T IT?

Yes, and let's look at the whole passage: Matthew 22:37-40, " Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."(38) "This is the first and great commandment, (39) And the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.(40) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Propets."

Please notice, Group: The first commandment is to love God with our whole being........that would be obeying Biblical warnings (that someone has posted), regarding the dreadful sin of homosexuality. Secondly, we are to look after  any neighbor in need ( like Jesus' good Samaritan).

So God ALWAYS comes first in our lives. It makes no difference about a free country or not. Makes no difference what the laws are. God's law rules.

Love thy neighbor.

O.K., Let's say my neighbor comes up to me and says, "I'm going to lose my house. I need you to loan me your pistol and the use of your car, so I can go rob a bank."

Obviously, I'm not going to help him in any way that would be illegal, immoral, or unsafe....even though that's what he wants.....and thinks he needs.

Or, another scenario.....A husband is a heavy smoker. The wife makes sure to buy his cigarettes every week....even when it crimps money for her and the children to get enough to eat.

She loves him, and wants him to enjoy his habit (addiction). Really? What she's doing is slowly killing him, and maybe not allowing the children to get proper nourishment.

So, these two sketches illustrate what sometimes people want the most.........is the worst thing for them. And if anybody thinks they're helping.....even in their heart or mind....it's still the worst.

Yes, I say love them, talk to them, pray for them. You don't have to go bowling with them, or stuff......but let them know where you stand.....with Jesus.

Now, I'm not going to boycott  Strawblocks, but I'm sure not going to go out of my way to patronize them. Apostle Paul says in I Corinthians 5:9-10," I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. (10) Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world."

We're surrounded in this world, guys - the devil's playground.

When anybody starts talking to me, trying to win my support for the homosexuals...........

I just mention two things............Sodom and Gomorra.

Grace and Peace.
