All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Did Jesus wait to preach until He was 30 because that was when He become filled with the Spirit after baptism? But, Jesus is the Spirit, right? I've just been thinking about this lately and going back & forth with it. I must admit that I haven't looked into it deeper on my own but just wanted to see your thoughts on it. Thanks

What is probably confusing is I totally forgot I had ask about Jesus telling His mother it wasn't time yet. Duh me. LOLOL.

I'm still confused about 6 being man. Exactly where does it say that? I've always believed the same as you about 666 representing nothing good for sure. Man, this has really gotten off topic hasn't it? lololol

*/ Biblical Numerology: The Literal and Symbolic Significance Behind Certain Numbers /*

Tammy,

Your question about the significance of the number 6 in relation to man touches on an area of study called "Biblical Numerology."   This shouldn't be confused with the occult or New Age practice of numerology.  The underlying premise of Biblical Numerology is that certain numbers are used repeatedly throughout the Holy Scriptures to literally and symbolically represent certain things.

"Bible numerology is the study of individual numbers in Scripture. It relates particularly to the meaning of numbers, both literal and symbolic," according to About.Com.

Those that see Biblical significance to the #6 (and multiples of 6) say it symbolizes man and his labor.

  • God created man on the 6th day.
  • Creation ended on the 6th day.
  • The day consists of 24 hours (6 x 4), which is a multiple of 6.
  • There are 12 months in a year (6 x 2).
  • An hour has 60 minutes (6 x 10).
  • A minute has 60 seconds.
  • The Bible prescribes 6 days of work and 1 day of rest in the week.
  • There are 66 books in the King James Bible.
  • The number of man is 666, according to Revelation 13:18.

Likewise, the #3 is understood by Biblical Numerologists to signify perfection and completeness.  Examples:

  • The Godhead: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
  • Time: Past, Present, Future.
  • Spatial Measurement:  Height, Width, Depth.
  • Matter: Solid, Liquid, Gas.
  • Family: Husband, Wife, Child(ren).
  • Human Abilities:  Thought, Word, Deed.
  • Three Bear Witness: Spirit, Water, Blood.
  • Three apostles were chosen by Jesus to witness his transfiguration.

Whether not the numbers really do have a significance is widely debated.  Quite frankly, it's not something I've researched. Though, I find it somewhat interesting.

I would urge caution and prudence before reading too much into the allegorical or metaphorical significance behind numbers in the Bible.  We want to be careful not to go off on subjective flights of fancy, reading into God's Word things that aren't there.  Many end-times doomsayers have come and gone setting dates for the end of the Earth, claiming that there are hidden numbers or meanings behind numbers in the Bible, which only they can discern.

Thanks Colby. I've always heard of 3 & 7 being God's perfect numbers but didn't put much thought behind it. The only 666 I've ever paid attention to was the Anti-Christ. Thanks for the info.
