What is sin in early Christianity and what is sin today?

Bruce,
I believe sin is sin regardless of when it is committed. The sin we will judged on is not accepting Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
We are fortunate in the fact that we have a written copy of God's Word, easily accessible. Therefore, we should be judged more severely should we not use it. It can be right in front of us at a moment's notice in most cases.
Most people don't recognize the Number one sin in our life...rejection of Christ. If we accept Him, we should live to please Him. Most of us live to please ourselves. That can be a grievous error with grievous consequences.
Blessings.....

Sin, for one, is breaking the law. Then again sin pertains to God's direction or better still it is to miss the mark as in the game of darts. But also it is written that all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God. So it is like missing the grade or standard. Remember that Jesus as the son of man is our standard of judgement.
Sin, simply, is "missing the mark," coming up short of God's standard of perfect righteousness, including breaking God's laws. The Apostle Paul says in Romans 3:23: "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We sin when we follow our our will instead of God's will. Sin impairs our relationship with God and with other people.
There's a good explanation of sin from a Biblical perspective here: [ http://www.allaboutgod.com/what-is-sin.htm ].
