True, but people still view it as a mystery.

Think about the era in which Jesus lived in the flesh among men. He was part of the Hebrew nation which was a small group under the control of the Roman empire. He lived in one small part of the world and did not venture out from there during His life. His ministry only encompassed 3 to 3 1/2 years. To the rest of the world, including the Roman empire He was not that significant from a worldly point of view. Actually it is amazing that He is remembered at all, if not but for the fact that He is the Son of God, God in the flesh, and His selected life events are recorded in Scripture for us.

I would disgree that it does not answer the question. The point is "Why would there be a description" from history of some individual who lived in a small country under the control of another country, was famous for only about 3 to 3 1/2 years in that region only? The only one's who might have even cared as little bit about sharing a description of his appearance would have been the disciples and they do not give a description. Therefore, if they did not share a description of Him God did not see it important enough to include in Scripture.

There is a description of Jesus...  He's Glorious!!

Revelation chapter 1

¹² Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; ¹³ and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like ^[j]a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. ¹⁴ His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. ¹⁵ His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. ¹⁶ In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun ^[k]shining in its strength.

¹⁷ When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ and the living One; and I ^[l]was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. ¹⁹ Therefore write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after these things. ²⁰ As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Rochelle, Rochelle,

 

Carla has shown us what we can look forward to when Jesus returns in glory(every eye shall see). He won't be a helpless babe laying in a manger(obviously).

Isaiah gives us a future peek at our Lord about 700 years before He was born on this earth..... Chapter 53, verse 2:

"For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should look on Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him." (N.A.S.B.). 

Seems that God the Father did not desire Jesus to be a dashing, handsome hunk, that people would admire, and follow Him for His physical appearance. I understand that some people vote for candidates in an election because they like their looks. By not going into detail regarding what Jesus looked like.....He left it open for each person to form his or her opinion.

 

So Rochelle, you can tell your friend that the Bible does show several views of Jesus' appearance, as descibed by several accurate posts here........of different time periods.

 

Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.
