All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

In reading the comments of several different topics I have come up with a question.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Says the spirit returns to the God Who sent it.

Matthew 11:14 says and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.

Luke 1:14 and he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah....

My questions is....

Does God send out a particular spirit more than once or does a spirit receive only one body and one soul to work with?

Blessings....

IMO, and I have many opinions because I think about many things, if we believe it is possible to have more than one body and one soul, then we would be entertaining thoughts in the possibility of re-incarnation. That is a wayward path, because if we believe in the Resurrection, we cannot possibly believe in re-incarnation, too, since, when God puts one's spirit back into bodily form, then only one of those bodies can be inhabited by that spirit.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 1 Thessalonians 4:16, NLT.

Salvation has three parts: justification, sanctification, and glorification.

What was the Spirit and power of Elijah? God.

Elijah had received an anointing of God's Spirit to carry out his task for God. Elisha recognized this and asked for a double portion. There was something very distinct about Elijah and carried on through Elisha. Examine how God worked through them compared to the other O.T. prophets.

Lord Bless,

Hi guys!

I think that I was mixing apples and oranges! :>)

I am not speaking of reincarnation. What I was trying to do is ask if the spirit that resides in us was reused, i.e. mixing apples and oranges. When I read the responses of you both, I realized that was what I was doing and realized how ridiculous it must have sounded. (I have to laugh at myself for it.)

I do appreciate the responses and relize how crazy my question was. Thanks for responding...both of you!

Blessings...

Rita, There is only one Spirit of God that makes-up the New Creation. We do have the trinity; the Father Son and the Holy Ghost. But the Spirit is of God. It is the same Spirit living in us that was in Jesus. This is why we are all “One” with, or in Him; the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us. There is only one God. That God is Christ; this is the same Christ that all the promises of God were given to. They were not given to man: per se, but to Abraham and his seed were the promises made, not to seeds as of many, but to the one seed which was “Christ”; so if you have Christ, then all the promises that were given to Abraham, are also given to you; because we are all one Spirit with Him. Deut.28:1-14.

So if we are born again’ we are born by the same Spirit. Every born again child of God, has the same Spirit. Where do we stop? Help me get off.lol

As far as the Spirit of Elijah; John the Baptist was Elijah, “Elias” or the “Spirit of Elijah” which was to come.Mat.11:14. ……19…but wisdom is justified of her children!!

Joe

Joe, could you clarify a little more? Are you saying that after the new birth we are no longer spirit, soul and body but Holy Spirit, soul, and body? What happens to our spirit?

It is renewed; recreated; old things passed away; behold all things became new.

All of this happened in your spirit at the new birth. You have the same body, and soul, the soul is to come into agreement with the recreated spirit.  The body “flesh” is our earth suit it will be changed at the resurrection.

You can be transformed from whatever you are, to whatever you want to be; merely by the renewing of the mind. If we want to be like Christ, we look into the spiritual mirror “the bible” to see what we are to look like. The bible is the reflection of Christ, and by beholding His Glory, we are changed into the same image from glory to glory; even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2Cor.3:18.

Sorry Amanda, I hope I didn't make it more confusing?? Lol

Joe

Our spirit is renewed and recreated and we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, but our spirit is still our spirit, right? Our spirit bears witness with His Spirit that we are children of God. Right?
