Is it lieing to say Jesus died on a tourture stake (even though He didn't die a single pole) instead of a cross just because the other person/people won't listen to the word cross?

I would say the fact that you asked says you think it is being dishonest so instead of saying Jesus died on a torture stake just say Jesus died for our sins and our salvation. It's why Jesus died thats important. If they then ask how, tell them. Don't change the facts to please others, let the word stand on it's own.
God is sooo coool,
Gary
Thanks.
Ugh, this is so frustrating... How can I tell them a gospel without a cross? If they hear the word cross they'll get so defensive claiming it's pagan and possibly pinpoint me to a watchtower. They don't even believe Jesus can be their mediator unless they're in the special group of 144,000... :sighs: The problems are; they can't read the bible alone/in a small group (a.k.a not allowed to think independly-they think it is proud to and it's of Satan), they're terrified they'll loose Jehovah's favor from the orgainzation and won't make it to paradise and they read their watchtowers more than their bibles.
How can I preach a gospel when in their minds they'll think something else (ex. I say Jesus rose from the dead they'll think of a glorified Michael the Archangel)?
I know that wasn't the topic exactly-I'm just so frustrated I needed to get that off of my chest. Atleast with muslims and hindus they'd understand (once finding out the bible is God's word) the rest of it better...know what I mean?
Anyway, back on topic. If I try to tell them Jesus died for them they'll probably think they have to trust in Jesus+works. It's like teaching foreign language to a 1 year old. -_-
You are just going to have to tell them the good news feetbreeze & leave the rest to the Lord. You plant the seed. Pray for them as well but I don't think JW has to be handled as if they are fragile. Teach Jesus like you would to anyone else. What else can you do? The Lord will bless your desire to see them come to Christ.
Hi Feetbreeze,
This scripture is coming to mind:
1 Tim 6:4,5
4 Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions. 5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.
Anyone who participates in 'word battles' does not understand divine truth. Don't participate with them. They are obsessing over terminology, and attacking the reliability and truth of scripture. As Gary has said, let the word stand on its own.
Bless you, Carla
Hi Carla,
You're right about the word battles...truth of scripture? The bad news is their bible is twisted and corrupt. It's literly interpreted just to fit their doctrine. They think the NWT is devinly inspired. I've tried scripture and guess where I got pointed to? The NWT (New World Translation) and they may possibly pinpoint "truth" from a watchtower.
Let me show you what I mean, read John 1:1 http://www.watchtower.org/e/bible/joh/chapter_001.htm
I feel like it's just a spin game. You know one of those rev. tops kids play with? Well, that's what this seems like.
1)I ask them a question (questions are one of the ways to get them to think-the right one needs asked though)
2)If it's a question about a verse that could show Jesus' divinity (yes it can exisit in the NWT, like Heb. 1 but there's risk it'll get twisted) they'll twist it and than trash talk the truth. "You see that proves Jesus can't be Jehovah God. Jehovah's his Father." or something like that. The guys an elder, he knows how to talk, he's been in the religion a long time. Their entire life is the watchtower society. They go listen to the talks at the Kingdom Hall, go door to door to preach "the good news"-their lives are the WT society.
3)I'm frustrated after that. By the way, the scripture thing is what some like to call "Bible ping-pong". I say a scripture, they say another. Anyway, I run out of what I can say to them (It's happened many times). Scripture just gets twisted and I'll probably be just given a watchtower to "help me see the truth". What's really bad is when their bible says something biblically wrong and I can just get showed from the NWT, "See this is what the bible says." They think the other translations are corrupt but they have the right translation.
The other thing to keep in mind is that they truly believe they have to earn their way to heaven. The preach door to door because that is one of the ways they earn that salvation. At one point I started to talk to them...but now I have been convicted to not talk to them (for the time being anyway). I am very upfront with them now and I tell them I am a 'born again' Christian. I tell them I worship Jesus as God, and I won't consider anything different than that. At that point they know they have no ground for debate with me... It becomes a useless word game.. I refuse their booklets when they want to offer me one. They have stopped coming to my home--they used to come all the time. It's hearbreaking... pray for them.
Yep, they try to earn their salvation. They never truely have peace.
I have to talk to them. For my mother is at risk of joining them. It's not much use for me to refuse their booklets since that'll probably make mom upset and she'd except them anyway.
I don't know how to be upfront. I'm intimidated (especially since one is a man) . It'd be easier if only the women (my mom and the elder's wife were the only ones to talk to-and if shunning wasn't practiced.) It's intimidating when there's talking (especially of the elder) so much that it causes me to just shut my mouth. It's also intimdating he's been probably making talks/speeches/going door to door longer than I've been alive. I've only been a born-again Christian (this May 29th will be two years). I don't know what to say that would be effective. I only know some stuff but for going "head to head" in talking to them that's overwelming.
I'm sorry...I know Jesus wants me to remember 2 Corinth. 12:9. I'm sorry...it's my stupid self pity and fear getting in the way again. If I was like 50 and taller and heavier I think I wouldn't be as scared. I picture him, he's taller....trying to talk to a man of his inteligence about a subject so controvesial at my height, age and weight (in other words seeing someone bigger-not fat-but taller than me is intimidating when I'm a full grown 4 foot 11 at around 100 pounds-not to mention knowing he's an elder and a man). Know what I mean? Elders have power...and knowing mom is in trouble....she'd be trapped if baptized.
If it was just me and not mom it wouldn't be as scary. She doesn't realize the trouble she's in...and once you're in your threatened God won't love you and you'll be destroyed at armaggedon if you leave and your JW people you friends/family with won't talk to you.
Hi FeetBreeze...
God is using this situation to grow you up in Him and solidify your faith. Here's a forum discussion which may be of help. http://www.allaboutgod.net/group/allaboutgodnet/forum/topics/jehova... .
Also, here's an article which may be of help:

Hi,thanks I'll look
It says don't conduct a bible study. Does that matter that started almost 4 years ago and ended awhile back (might of ended around a year ago)? I'm familiar with alot of their beliefs. I'm familar with I have to watch what I say or they'll cry persecution. I've been in their Kingdom Hall atleast a few times, I've seen their books and watchtowers. I've asked many questions (which has been a big discouragement since they just twist scripture).
I'm familar with their beliefs (experience with them and research). After almost 4 years I've become familar with this religion...It wouldn't even be a good idea to share with them the expeience I had when I was really little with an angel...I learned before from them they don't believe God sends angels anymore.
I've searched for help online. I don't know how to share the deity of Christ considering they'll twist scriptures lead me to verses about Michael and "lecture me on how bad the trinity/Christendom is and on their truth".
As I read your response I can't help but think God has placed you there on purpose... You know their teachings well. You need to grow into being solid in what the truth is, and the deity of Christ.. perhaps God will use you to bring many out of captivity. Pray about it. I don't think it's an accident that you are there.
Bless you.. Stand Strong. Make sure you are continually supported in prayer as you move forward in this. I have prayed also.
I think He did place me in the place He wanted as well. I met the JW when I was watering flowers (I think it was probably the Summer right before 10th grade) out front of the house. My friend (pray Jesus saves her, I asked her about salvation and she said something about church) and I when we went to church and I took her bus at times (I took her bus after school on Weds). Guess who was the bus driver to drive us to my friend, Tabby's house (I had to wait for church was later on in the day)? The elder I've mentioned!
God has His reasons, nothing is an accident-everything has purpose, even evil can be used for good.I love Ecc. 3:1-8, a time and place for everything!
Well, there is this one book (it's too expensive online but God can make one two dollers at bthe local Goodwill) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Kingdom-Interlinear-Bible-Greek-Watcht... that is suppose to really help. This website expains more http://www.soundwitness.org/jw/KIT_part1.htm
You see that book shows real truths that the organazation regrets (they stopped printing the book). Pray if God wills that the Lord will let me get that book (even if it's just at a local second hand store). There's two dates, the 1969 one and one from the 80s. Pray if God wills I can get one (I don't care which one). And please pray my mom and the JW people, that Jesus saves them someday.
Bless you. Thanks for your prayers.
Something that's problematic about the bible translation thing. I remember mom was showing the elder's wife a very old KJV bible. Mom I think commented to me (not when the elder's wife could hear but later on) how (insert name) looked scared. That (insert name) liked the bible but was scared.
