All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Matthew 16

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life, will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

What does it mean to die to self? How does one do that and how does it look like in our daily livin to die to self?

What does the bible mean by:  "whoever wants to save their life, will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it?"

Hey David,

I can tell you this much - I am now 65 and I am still doing it. However, the verses you quote have great meaning to me. Self is perhaps our greatest enemy. Gaining the world means more than just wealth, power, fame, etc., it also has to do with this world's philosophies which are very much anti-God.

Many try to hold on to certain relationships by sacrificing their faith. He who loves father, mother, son or daughter more than Christ is not worthy of Him. I love my family so deeply. Yet, I know that Christ must come first. I have to just pray that He will help me in this area.
