Should Christians watch Tv shows like "The Bachelor" ?
I am aghast at the idea that people who are on this show and also many who watch it actually , really think that this method is suitable for finding a partner in life. It also makes me realize that lots of them are quite sincere about desiring to find a true and life long mate but are so very lost and misled .
I don't know why I have a fascination with watching it for sure, but I do - even though I truly don't believe it causes or leads me into sin. I think it just makes me see more clearly the futile nature of people on their own without God. Hmmm, any thoughts and opinions about watching a show like this as a Jesus follower? I also love to watch dancing and so then Dancing With the Stars but that too I wonder about Hmmmm.... Thanks for any input.

Reality shows are the world's idea of reality. It is my thought that reality shows are demeaning to the people who participate whether they win, lose or draw. People, including good Christian people get caught up in them. I don't think that is such a good idea.

I know I am kind of embarassed when someone phones me and I have to admit what I'm in the middle of watching . I'm not proud of it . But I want to grab those people who are in , like say the recent Bachelor series , and shake them and say 'this is not the right way to find your mate! ' It is very demeaning to them I agree . Thank you for your reply.

We have freedom in such matters, but God convicts each of his kids according to how He is dealing with each one in a particular time of their lives.
Personally, I think we can spend our time in more constructive activities, but then again, I do hope to be in the show - American Idol soon.

Yes, and I suppose in some areas what would be sinful for one person would not be for another?
Definitely, I guess maybe the uneasiness I feel is from thinking I sure could be using the time to do something that would be of benefit to someone else or God's kingdom . I know for a fact that it does not make me want to act like those people - so demeaning for them as Rita mentioned .
I try to remember to think how I'd feel if Jesus 'returned' while I was watching The Bachelor !!! Yikes not so great a thought.
Actually, American Idol I don't have any uneasiness watching and I like watching it too. Thanks for your reply.

So true - it is God's opinion only that counts really.
I know a lot of young women who watch the Bachelor (who don't know Jesus or don't follow His word anyways) . They discuss the developments in the show - who would make a good choice & who wouldn't for the Bachelor and their various questionable ?? goings on .
I have rationalized that if I have been watching it , then I know of what they are talking and I can try to intercept their thinking about how these people are doing it the world's way which leads to disaster but their is another much better way - God's way . It is easy to rationalize things to suit us and this may be what I'm doing.
Funny thing is, I am often disgusted by the behaviors ( as are even a lot of the unbelievers who watch too) . So this would be a good chance to talk about it with them I've been thinking. But again I know that we do have deceitful hearts at times & we have to guard against it fooling us. Thank you so much for your reply though. It has given me good food for thought - hmmm condemnation or conviction ?

To share about my life into this, over the years I have grown lots in God, Ive gotten to were I only watch TV 5% of my time, I hardly watch it. The very thing that's over taken my heart is God and his great commission! The help others, lead them to Christ, but my walk takes another parrell to this, is to learn form God in research also, to expose Satan and the nuts and bolts of Modern life and how its a reflective mirror of its and our Ancient past. And I have to learn and and have understanding of the times, form Ancient to date and how it all interworks. I gather my walk is like the walk of Issachar, Joseph of Genesis, Moses and Esther. So I have a full life as a Modern Christian, Gods servant and Ambassador and a Royal guard of Christs, to safe guard the church form Satan and his wicked army! So my Christian walk is rather full and thus I don't have time too watch TV and allot of things I use to desire, now my desire is for God and his will and to love others! I hope this helps in your Topic Maysie, just shareing what God has done in my life.

Sometimes I feel embarrased when colleagues talk about a popular TV programme and I look on so blank. It does not bother me much because I have so much to catch up on in my journey and feel no comfort sitting to watch a TV programme. I don't think it's a bad thing to watch something you enjoy on TV especially if you have kids. Watching enables you to select the the programmes that are healthy for them to watch.
I used to enjoy the NCIS series, and wish I could get time to watch every once in a while. In my view, watching tv is a form of relaxation and honestly, I should learn to relax more because it is healthy. What I think should be done is to watch programmes that benefits us in our spiritual growth.

Seeking, I agree with you completel. There is nothing appealing on the news these days and watching it, is just a waste of time. If we can spend such time available to us in self growth through reading of the Word, which guarantees our happiness in all ways, ít will be worth the while.
