All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Life in Christ Trek - image by Anna Holt copyright 2008. All Rights Reserved.Go and Make Disciples!

One of Jesus' last commands to his followers was "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:18-20). If we love Jesus, we want to be doing what is nearest to his heart, don't we? So, what is a disciple and how can we make them?

A disciple is a learner... a follower... a student. Following Jesus is a learning process. Receiving him as Savior is only the beginning. He wants us to walk with Him and learn from him every day.

AllAboutGOD Ministries is creating an entirely new website for the purpose of making disciples and we need your feedback and ideas. We are also looking for people who are disciples and passionate about making disciples.

We are proposing a website with a 12-week basic Christian training called "Life in Christ Trek". In this 12-week training, people will have a brief study in God's Word and then apply foundational, biblical principles of an abundant life adventure with Jesus. It is not intended to be an academic course, but practical teaching and training focused on life change. Each week, we propose covering a different topic. Here is a sample outline:

Week 1. The Credibility of the Bible - Is it really God's Word and can I trust it?
Week 2. Salvation - What does it mean to be rescued by Jesus?
Week 3. Eternal Security - Can I lose what Jesus has given me?
Week 4. Victorious Living - How can I overcome sin and live joyously?
Week 5. My Relationship with God - Part 1
Week 6. My Relationship with God - Part 2
Week 7. Growing in God' Family - Why community and the church are important.
Week 8. Following Christ's Example - What does WWJD really look like?
Week 9. Forgiveness - How to forgive others and yourself.
Week 10. Discernment - How do I know right from wrong?
Week 11. Future Events - What does the Bible say about what's coming?
Week 12. The Great Commission - What's nearest to Jesus' heart?

Trainees would invest about 1 to 2 hours a week to complete the lesson materials online and answer the online study questions; and then 30 minutes (or more if they wish) every day reading the Bible and listening for and writing down what God will tell them as they read in their online blog.

We envision this website as place where trainees (disciples) will also have the opportunity to interact with a volunteer trainer and others in a study group (consisting of 8 to 12 trainees and a trainer) about what they are learning through forums and question/answer chat times.

A trainer should be a disciple himself and someone who wants to invest part of their life in making disciples in obedience to Christ's command.

So what do you think?

1. Is the idea of a 12-week basic training a good one?
2. What do you think of the proposed training outline?
3. Would you be interested in going through the training yourself?
4. Would you be interested in discipling others by being a trainer?
5. What questions, feedback, observations do you have?

Amen, Jack! I hope to have the Introduction and Week One materials finished for beta testers some time this week. I will be looking for a testing team.
Anonymous poster, I am a little concerned by your reply, you state; By assuming that everyone who goes through your course is saved. If you tell them that they cannot lose, what they ultimately don't really have in the first place, then you are potentially giving them false assurance.

Now, please correct me if I am wrong, someone who is saved has the free gift of eternal life, they have something God has given them, so they do actually have something, they have the assurance of eternal life.
So to say they would be losing something they dont really have, doesnt make any sense, when infact they do actually have something. Also, if you look carefully at the topic index, week 2, Salvation - What does it mean to be rescued by Jesus?, I think this may include study that covers your title, 'How can I know that I am saved'.

I think the idea is fantastic and I would love to be involved.
Yes, Moomins, as I mentioned in the training description, "Receiving him as Savior is only the beginning". Eternal life is a free gift and it has a beginning as people receive Jesus. You are correct in saying that Week 2 covers these items.

I'm so glad you are wanting to be involved in this training, Moo! :)
Great idea, Donna! There is a glossary function on the website we are proposing so we could define all kinds of vocabulary words there.
Great, Lyd! I'm getting more motivated to finish the training course as I get feedback like this.
Greg,

I am out of town with limited access to the internet. I will respond in more detail after I get home in a few days. It sounds like a great idea.

Hi Greg,

I love this idea. My book/bible study ended today for the summer, and home church will be ending soon for the summer also...This is very timely!

Count me in.
Hi Greg, I think the idea is great to and would like to be involved in such a training. I so much want to learn how to Disciple, I am out here on my own and I don't always hear God very well when He talks to me about how to speak to people about Him...I would very much like the opportunity to learn.
Peace,
Rori
Greg: This is a very interesting proposal for training disciples. I am currently involved in Evangelism Explosion and am being trained for sharing the Gospel in my community. This would only enhance my world of influence by being more equipped with answers to questions that may arise. This is a wonderful idea. Keep me posted. In His Love and Care, Mary West
Thanks Mary. We'll keep you posted. I became a teacher/trainer in EE about 20 years ago. It is a good ministry to help train people to share their faith. I learned a lot through it.
Hi Greg,

This is a great idea and I love the outline, and the idea of 12 week training. Please count me in. I am a disciple, a learner and a follower for five years, and I am interested in maintaining a teachable spirit, and mentoring others as I am able.

In HIS Service,
MaryAnn
I would be interested in going through the training. The proposed outline looks excellent. I am not currently in a place where I could be a trainer, but maybe that would change down the road.

I like the idea of having this type of course online. I have been wanting to attend some classes, but struggle with the social aspects. I don't get much of an opprotunity to learn about God outside of reading the bible or other books.
