All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

From my knowledge & research, I understand that Sunday is the 1st day of the week & Saturday is the 7th day of the week, being the Sabbath Day. God created & did his works in 6 days & rested on the 7th day, the Sabbath day..& so shall everyone on earth. So in alignment with the 4th commandment, which also states what God expects of us on the Sabbath day. He wants us to rest & keep it holy as he did, & I surely know he wants us all to follow ALL 10 COMMANDMENTS...not 8 of them...not 9 of them..but ALL 10 COMMANDMENTS in order to recieve God's name in your forehead. From my research, I understand that worship & praise on Sunday originated from Ancient Rome in the catholic church...it was told that praising on Sunday comes from worshipers of the sun...The Lord said praise him & nothing else. So my question is......Is Saturday the original day we suppose to praise & keep holy (which would be the sabbath day)? Or should we continue to praise on Sunday? But if you look at the 4th commandment, the answer is right there.

Now we will allow you to re-write teh Bible to suit yourself ... I think not.

It is almost hilarious when I see people resorting to Acts 15 as proof that since the Sabbath was not mentioned there, that the Gentiles were not obligated to "keep the Sabbath".

They fail to read further down the chapter to see that these Gentiles are "going to the Synagogue on the SABBATH!

Also if we stick to just the 4 laws that were mentioned in Acts 15, then why do you teach beyond these for in the Churches today???

Here is the text:

Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood” (Acts 15:19-20).

1)  Abstaining from food polluted to idols

2)  Sexual immorality

3) Things strangled

4)  Blood

All of these commandments are "straight from the Law of Moses"!
Three  of them are not even in the 10 commandments, they are straight from the
***LAW OF MOSES!***

But you gentiles don't even keep all those commandments today...

Gentiles going to the synagogue does not prove that the church adhered to Sabbath worship as a law. You are in error in your attempt to connect the dots.

Nice try again, but you failed ... again.

Here is every verse that the word "Synagogue" is used in Acts. You will not find one that teaches the church to do these things, but rather most show that Paul used the Synagogue as an opportunity to reach the Jews and what were know as God-fearing Gentiles who needed to hear the God news and be set free.

Act_6:9  Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

Act_13:14  But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

Act_13:15  And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

Act_13:42  And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

Act_14:1  And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

Act_17:1  Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

Act_17:10  And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Act_17:17  Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

Act_18:4  And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Act_18:7  And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

Act_18:8  And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

Act_18:17  Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

Act_18:19  And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

Act_18:26  And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Act_19:8  And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Act_22:19  And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

Act_26:11  And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

Act_9:20  And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

Act_13:5  And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

Act_15:21  For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

Act_24:12  And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

v“Have you never read wwhat David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: 26 how he entered the house of God, in the time of xAbiathar the high priest, and ate ythe bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” 27 And he said to them, zThe Sabbath was made for man, anot man for the Sabbath. 28 So bthe Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.

7 zOn the first day of the week, when we were gathered together ato break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.

God tells us to take a sabbatical during the week. I don't think it matters, because as LT says, we are not under the law but under grace.
We, as Christians, have the freedom to worship together on the day we are able to worship together. We, who worship on Sunday, are celebrating the resurrection of the Lord; and so we should as our freedom comes from that resurrection, just as our salvation does.
If we are under grace, why is it that we persist in the argument for the law? After all, God has written the law on our hearts. It is given to us, and the need to obey the law that God has written there, is ever with us. The sabbatical is necessary---for our own benefit---not God's. What day do you  require a sabbatical? What day do you require rest? I personally have broken down my day to take a sabbatical. First thing in the morning. I try to start my day with Christ. Every day.
We need to follow Christ, through study of God's instruction book, and not concern ourselves with what the heathens are doing (except to avoid the same practices). These practices are apparent....and I don't think Sunday worship is a key thing.
The Name above all names is Christ Jesus...NOT Catholicism, Mormonism, etc.
Blessings...

Greetings all,

I will bring some finality to this forum and close it.

There are several things that need to be made clear here.

1)      TheNET is not a debate site. This is a ministry arm of All About God ( www.allaboutgod.com ). Forums are for discussion and asking questions. We here on TheNET have a lot to learn and are open to various understandings on tough subjects seeking truth, this is not one of those subjects. We see this very clearly and stand our ground accordingly.

2)     The site is primarily designed for seekers and newer believers.

3)     We believe that the Bible is God inerrant Word. We cannot pick and choose what part we like or dislike. We cannot allow ourselves to be carried away by every conspiracy theory regarding what we have today. A holy God will protect the Word in order to convey to His creation what He wanted them to know.

With these three points stated I will now point out the following.

Keeping the Sabbath is not required of the born again children of God. That is our position, what we believe and teach. We make no apology for that. Sunday is not the new Sabbath. Worshipping the Lord is what is important, not the day of the week. This is not a debate site, though I took the time to briefly refute each statement and return our attention to our Lord and Savior Jesus, who is our Sabbath’s rest.

Those of you who wish to believe that Sabbath keeping is necessary are free to believe that. God gives you that freedom, just as He gives people freedom to accept or reject His Son. If your heart is for Jesus and you seek to keep the Sabbath God will honor you, provided it is about glorifying God and not legally adhering to the law. You are not free to impose your view and burden on us that have been set free through the work and blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God. If you disagree with this, then you are probably on the wrong site. If you push the legality of Sabbath keeping upon the church and born again children of God here on TheNET you will be treated as a teacher who is in error. You will be warned. If the warning to cease teaching what we clearly see as error is ignored you will be dismissed from this site.

Lord Bless,

LT
