Who is the Holy Spirit?
What is His purpose?
How do we get Him?
How are we baptized by Him?
I would like us all to put our knowledge of the Holy Spirit together so that we can better understand Him.
He is an awesome part of our Christianity but do we really know Him?

Dean,
Jesus knew that He also operated under the power of the Holy Spirit. All members of the Trinity work together at all times. They are 3 separate Persons working towards a common goal. They are always in agreement. I think that is why God is God...because, even though they are 3 separate Persons they are always in agreement. They work together for the good of humanity.
Jesus' quoting of this scripture shows us that the unity is there. No member of the Trinity goes off on their own to accomplish anything. Even at the death of Christ, they were there....possibly not speaking or acting, but they were there none-the-less.
I think that these verses also show that the Holy Spirit was with Jesus during His ministry and was a part of Jesus.
Blessings,
Rita
Agree totally Rita but I am just wondering Has God stopped moving. I keep hearing quotes of the past I haven't heard anything being done. Oh just to clarify yes the Word is impotant to let us realize and know we are being moved rightly and not by a wrong spirit. You see Rita have heard questions and then a bunch of people debate the fine points of scripture yet haven't heard God moving today in anyones life. Oh sorry a couple.
I believe we can learn a great deal by hearing what the Lord is doing in lives. In fact probably more than all the debates in the world. Sometimes debates become the enemies greatest tool.
Dean,
I know that the Holy Spirit is always working in my life, even on a day to day basis. Yesterday I was having a problem coping with putting together a machine I had purchased. I had had it for several weeks and had finally reached a critical part of the installation but it required a man to help me with it. I had tried to hire two different men to help me but neither would do it. When my husband lived, he could have accomplished what I needed done in a very short period of time, but he isn't with me any longer. I was becoming very upset. I called out to the Lord to help me. Within an hour I had a man there that would finish it for me.
Since Danny passed, (and before), the Holy Spirit has helped me through every problem that I've had. The comfort of having Him with me is unreal.
I have been comforted through the last 10 months, having everything that I could possibly need. I don't think the world would hold the books on what He has done for me. I guess that one of the reasons that I mention the person of the Holy Spirit by name is to further understand all He does at the direction of the Father and Jesus.
Can you only imagine what we would have if we could work together with other Christians like the Trinity works together? What an awesome thing!
As I study the Holy Spirit, I see Him working more and more in my life. And He is teaching me as well. Things that I didn't know how to accomplish before, He is instructing me in. He doesn't dump it on me but very patiently shows me the way.
When I am alone, I am never alone.
I am not exalting the Holy Spirit above the other Members of the Trinity, but I am seeing and understand ing exactly what Christ said when He said that He wouldn't leave us comfortless.
Our God is an AWESOME God..anticipating our every need. All the Glory to Him...
Rita
Thankyou Rita I couldn't agree more when you said about the Christian body working together like the Trinity. This is part of the reason I sometimes find the debates to be useless. I have the privirlege of being with new and non believers and the Holy Spirit is very gracious in reminding me of those days when I was there. One of the things I puzzled at in those days was the fact that in all the debates Christians left me at that time feeling there was no common ground. At that time all the ism and all the demands on how I should believe left me no room for that personal relationship. I praise the Lord for sending the Holy Spirit as He has guided me into a beautiful relationship. And as you said even in my darkest times I am not alone.
Our God is Awesome
Dean
Amanda, Excellent question. I have the same question. :-)
Blessings, Carla
I am reminded of Matthew 7:22.'Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through thy name, and through thy name cast out demons, and through thy name done many works of power? 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Is this because they were not truly gifts of the spirit or because they did not truly have faith?
Augustine says that for Christ to say, I never knew you, is only another way of saying, You never knew me.
Nancy,
I would imagine they can tell, but another issues arises, I have heard people speak in tongues, supposedly, but everything in me knows that is fake.
Example: I was out on a date with this one girl, that would just speak in tongues in the middle of our conversation, during spiritual and I ask the Lord if I should tell her to stop it, for she was actually mocking the Lord by doing that. But God told me to be quite and that she wasn't for me.
I tell you the story to bring up a sensitive issue: Sometimes we know who is faking it, by the leading of the Spirit, but we also know there is that 1% we may be wrong and that telling them will hurt them or upset them, so we opt to be silent. But the servants of the Lord who are exercise in godliness and have been actively around the body for a long time knows. I would imagine that those who have the gift of interpreting tongues can probably tell the fake from the genuine, but again, there is that 1-% chance that we are missing something and we could be wrong.
I do not know if I made any sense. All that to say, I do not know if they can tell or not, but I would imagine they can as we all can. The Spirit bears witness of the Spirit.
