hi Nancy
years ago i was walking down the street the holy spirit stopped me dead in my tracks, He told me to pray for a young lady (who was a friend of my wife and myself, she had gotten married about a year earlier and we sort of lost contact as they moved quite far north of us), i had no idea why i was praying so urgent or what was wrong, but it was that urgent that it was an immediate prayer, we were planing to visit them i believe it was the next weekend, and we did as she was having a baby, the little girl was born with no skull, she lived 23 hours, she the mother, made it through, it she smiled with tears, and talked with the child, loved her, and held her most of the time, there were no words to say, we could just be there with her, although it hurt greatly she made it through, with a calm assurance God was in control, and His peace flooded her, as i was typing this the Holy Spirit brought to mind a similar story that happened to me years before i knew Jesus, at that time a couple of my good friends had a two year old, they left the child with a young 15 year old baby sitter, probably to go partying, as that was our normal, the child was going to the bathroom and slipped into the toilet seat it chocked her to death, the baby sitter had no idea what to do, i went to the funeral, it was filled with anger, bitterness, hatred, total loss, etc. i believe they split after this not really sure as we loss contact, but it impacted me so much, that i refused to go to a funeral for many years even after i became born again, because of the absolute hopelessness, when we go through suffering God allows it and uses it often to help the lost, if we never suffered how would we help them, saying that, i just found myself in a major crisis, on saturday night i found out my wife is separating from me, at the end of november, she says we are going our separate ways, we have been married since 1977 at first was defensive and angry, God said to me deal with your anger quickly i did, the only way to deal with anger is to forgive, God said rejoice in all circumstances, though it was hard i did, i now have a calm peace, knowing God is in control, no matter what the outcome, so if i come to mind and you think about it say a prayer for me, your brother

As a church we need to model our lives around Christ. Maybe the question that we need to ask ourselves is what wouldHe have done under the same circumstances and how He did then. Remember when He said to Simon Peter on (Mathew 16V23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.) if you start from verse 14 and look at verse 16 in particular He said to Peter, Peter you are the Rock and upon this Rock I shall build my temple. Those that we love we must correct. Jesus tought us to descern the spirits and act accordingly. Sometimes it is difficult to tell those that we love when they are wrong for fear of how they might react, ask yourself how they will react should something go wrong and you then say I wanted to warn you but I was scared.
God bless you
Amen !!! Many occasions where I was upset at someoone for what they had said abou;t something I was doing. Praise the Lord not to long later had to go back and thank them.
Yes edify certainly does mean correction.
I don't know if this helps, but I try to find an experience from my life and use it to try and show the person that I've been there.
Once someone sees that someone else has had the experience, or at least something close, they listen a bit more intently.
I also will try to convey my point with a question rather than just point out the problem. This method tends to get the person thinking and often they answere it themselves. Example: Say someone is getting a divorce. I might ask, " I wonder if divorce was common during Jesus' time on earth?" I might then say something like," I think I'll look up what the Bible says about divorce, it's been a while since I looked that over"
just my thoughts.
Sometimes the seed falls on good soil.
God is sooooo cooool
