All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Does regeneration occurs before we are saved or after? If we receive the Holy Spirit after we are saved, how can regeneration occurs before we are saved? Yet, God draws us to Christ.

If we can't come to Christ on our own, then we need a regenerated heart to do it.

Hmmm interesting...e.g Genesis 18 :18-19
Lucy, what is that you find interesting about this text regarding the topic?  :-)

Hey Carla, well, to me that shows that God can choose specific people for great things, and yet at the same time I feel we are all predestined to be able to come to Him through Jesus:

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live''

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

 Just my baby thoughts :D

Yes and poor Ishmael.
Lucy,  Regarding Ismael (and Judas), It was a matter of the heart..  it was regarding their rebellion and refusal to submit to God...in both instances that was the case.  When God pours out His wrath, that is always the case.  They wanted to do things their own way.  We can learn alot by studying their lives.

Lucy,

well, to me that shows that God can choose specific people for great things, and yet at the same time I feel we are all predestined to be able to come to Him through Jesus:  Amen..  It sounds to me like you've been studying. ;-)

Only Genesis so far can you tell LOL
Carla, are you thinking of Esau, 'cos I cant find where Ishmael rebelled against God,  I read he grew in the desert, with God, although his desendents lived in hostility toward their brothers as the Angel of the Lord originally told Hagar that Ishmael would. I suppose the Angel of the Lord here could have been referring to the nation that Ishmael would become ! ...am I on right lines dya think ?. or anyone?

Lucy, I was actually thinking of Cain, and how he killed Abel (Genesis 4)..

I'm sorry, my response must have been very confusing.  Thank you for bringing clarity to the discussion.  I will take more time in responding next time.

Blessings, Carla

Amanda,

I think that it's awesome that you want to test all things, that is what we are supposed to do..  You keep me on my toes..  I'm not a ballerina but I may need some special shoes. :-)

Ama,

>>IMO it puffs people up to think they were chosen according to the way Calvinism teaches it. It almost seems to be something to boast about although they readily defend it by saying it isn't, but come on, it would be favoritism, wouldn't it?

Check out this vid that explains how a person who believes in the doctrines of Grace feels and thinks it's the purpose behind God election unto salvation.

I'm still in the think-tank, I see so far the Old Testament shows God choosing, predestining? certain people for specific purposes, e.g Ishmael, Joseph, Mary, Abraham. But then there are the people who are seen as a group eg: the peoples of Sodom, He says He will go down there to see if its as bad as He had heard?? if I recall.

However, ...the centerpiece of my faith is the belief that God has known me all my life (before I was saved), knows my children, hears me when I (yes little me) call upon Him, knows my thoughts, my very Being. I don't like to think of not thinking that!

Soooo what do I think? I like to think that every person on earth is predestined through Jesus to come to know him, but in reality millions won't, Am I confused, or would this very issue never occur to me had I not joined AAG .! hahaha

I will keep on reading, and learning. That's what this site is for isn't it, edifying , correction, learning,? so please be gentle with me and my basic understandings but keep on helping me, in God's mercy,
