Can Christians have demons?

I heard that Christians can have demon, if they allow it to happen. What are your views on this and why?

The gifts and callings of God are without repentence. However many gifted people need to have their character tuned up to be really used of God. Someone can be operating in what looks like a gift and it can really be demonic power. Also demons do not always manifest pubicly in a way that is recognizable. Sometimes they very quietly keep people trapped in rejection, defeat and fear.

I had an invisible "thing" get on my back when I was an unsaved Mormon watching pornography a lot and masturbating a lot. Because I thought it was a demon, I went to a church to try to get it off me. A man laid his hands on my head and I got what I think is The Holy Spirit (an invisible "presence" or whatever surrounded me), but the "thing" was still on me. It wasn't until pretty recently that I prayed to God and the "thing" got out of me. What I thought was just on me was actually in me, but not all the way in me, not controlling me a lot if at all. So I think I had a demon partially in me even though I was a christian with The Holy Spirit. I think to get them all the way out requires more than prayer, it requires that you give up sin too.
