Discerning the Voice of God.

Discern means to separate mentally or distinguish: to know, perceive, have intelligence or understanding.

 How do we know when God is speaking to us? The more time that we spend time in prayer and reading is the easier it becomes to know when God is speaking.  We will become confused, if we fail to read our bibles, and go to church. Through personal relationship we will be able to identify when He is speaking to us.

 The following are three areas of influence that can affect our lives:

 God-: This is the only area of influence that you can trust. We are to be led by the Holy Spirit.(Romans 8:14.

 The Devil and the demonic host: There are demonic influences that are trying to get us to make wrong decisions, causing us to be disobedient to God and rebel against Him, and opening up ourselves. Wrong decision will allow greater demonic influence in our lives. (Ephesians 6:10-12.

 Ourselves: Our flesh is constantly speaking to us. You cannot trust your heart (flesh).Jeremiah 17:9 and Romans 8:13.

Matthew 11:15 says He that hath ears to hear let him hear.

To be able to discern or know the voice of God, we must be willing to hear what He is saying. Many of us are not able to hear because we have not crucified our flesh, and allow fleshy appetites and desire to dominate us. Immaturity often causes us not to be able to hear the voice of God. If we want to hear from God we must grow up spiritually and understand that God often speak through the following:

• Dreams and vision ( ACTS10:9-16)
• His Word ( Psalm 119:105)
• In a still small voice ( 1 Kings 19:11-13)
• Our leaders and those who have spiritual authority in our lives, and partners in ministry. (Acts21:10-11 and Acts 13:1-3)
