Scriptural Readings: Acts 9:16, Phil 1:20-21, Luke 18:25,28-30
One thing for sure that will make your day is when from out of the blue you meet someone that you really wanted to see. More likely to happen next will probably be spending the rest of the day with that person. The next best thing that you might do is making sure that you're going to get in touch in the most convenient time for this person. Right?
What if you experience the exact opposite of this situation. The person you swore not to see for the rest of your life suddenly pop right out there in front of you. Out of all the people why that person appeared suddenly not on that time and the place? What are you going to do? A thing that might squeeze in to your mind is how to get rid of this situation at once but how are you going to do that?
In this age of digital, it is easy to get away with anything but the consequences will be the same. We can run with everything but we cannot hide. One way or the other we are going to end up facing the things we would like to whether we like it or not.
This is exactly what happened to the apostle Paul. He never expected on that day and time Jesus will pop out and caught him red-handed. Funny thing was instead of running away, he ended up saying 'Who art thou, Lord"?
Acts 9:16
For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.
This is now Paul. A life fitted to endure a course just like that of Jesus. A vessel chosen by the Lord Jesus to bear His name for us. For a minute let us think here for a while. If he followed Jesus and showed him how he must suffer. Isn't that we are also Christians and we will also suffer with Him?
Phil 1:20-21
v.20 According to my earnest expectation and [my] hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but [that] with all boldness, as always, [so] now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether [it be] by life, or by death.
v.21 For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.
What is this thing that after following Him we will suffer and then eventually die. To die is to gain? Why is the apostle Paul thrilled about leaving our world?
Luke 18:25
Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
When we got born again and accepted Jesus in our hearts. Our spiritual senses were opened. We suddenly realized how we were so entangled with temporal things. The order of importance is firstly temporal things and it seems that Jesus Christ is last on our priorities. This is exactly the problem is. We are occupied with things that are opposing His will and we are completely blind by these things will not last forever and upon accumulation of these things, we have taken Jesus out of the picture in our life.
Luke 18:28-30
v.28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”
v.29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
v. 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”
Now we have the reason and the only reason why we should bargain these temporal things to these things that would make us suffer for His name's sake. Paul knew and the rest of the apostles that having Jesus is the ultimate purpose in living in this world. Dying everyday on what this temporal things offer us is gaining the most important thing in our lives, Jesus Christ.
Will this fit you?
Heavenly Father give us all the reason to know Jesus more. Grant us the strength through the power of your Holy Spirit to follow Him and endure the pain of suffering as we hold on to your promises of blessings come eternal life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
